Right I know it's not the river itself but it has the drain backed up already. Looks to be doing the same thing down around the south end of the parkway in places.

It was backing up through a drain across from those apartments south of East Preston this morning. I wouldn't be surprised if it's over the road across from sci-port when I head to work in the morning.

Still not sure how anyone would think it's a good idea to build in a flood plain and not put the house on piers or at least building up a good mound for the slab level to get it above the 100-year mark.

Yeah, I'm building a house in a flood zone in Florida. It is going on pilings and will be 3 feet above 100 year flood. And the house is going to cost just under $300k.

FEMA has been revising their flood maps to make them more conservative. And you just don't build without being 2 feet above 100 year flood unless you don't care about flood insurance.

If these houses have a mortgage, they have flood insurance and the houses are built above the 100 year flood plain elevation. The river levee may be built to a 500 year flood elevation. All new construction must be above the 100 year flood elevation. Apparently, this is an event near 100 year or maybe greater. They received a permit from the Parish/Municipality based on that 100 year elevation.

You are correct, for example, the imaging center and hotel in Vidalia LA that was mentioned earlier was built on the river side of the levee on property that was classified by the Corp of Engineers as being in the 100 year flood plane, no different from my house which is no where near a river or levee. Also, due to advances in computer modeling more accurate flood prediction data is available than at the time most levee systems were built, using todays data many levees would have never been built at all, or would have a vastly different design.

What's it looking like down at the end of Hamilton at Old Benton Rd.? The water plant is inside the levee there, I wonder how that's gonna work out if it's under water. Especially with that $85 mil the city just put into it and barely uses.

You would think that someone who is able to throw down 300 grand on a house would have the good sense not live on the THE RIVER SIDE OF A LEVEE!! My mind is blown.

The homes pictured are much more expensive than 300K. The River Bluff lots on the river side were listed for 250K originally. Home values are closer to a Million. I wouldn't build there either but it's difficult to express how high that bluff was above the river. You would have never thought the water could get that high.

My mom lives in the haven and said there's an evacuation of the entire neighborhood going on. She said her house is far enough back to avoid flooding but there's only one way in & out so everyone must go.
