I think this statistic shows how sad Atlanta is as a sports town

Per a tweet from Turner Sports

"Cavs Hawks Gm 3 earned a 32.0 in Cleveland, TNT's highest rating on record for a Cavs game in the market & 10.1 in Atlanta."

Now I don't really know much about the fandom of Atlanta, but it's a popular opinion of this board that they don't have a strong fanbase in the city for their sports. I'm not a ratings expert, and it says that 32.0 is a record for Cleveland so maybe that's just a ridiculously high rating? But the game was in Cleveland and they still outrated the Atlanta market by such a wide margin?

Like I said, I could be very wrong and missing a key factor that makes this stat meaningless. Or am I right in the sense that this sort of shows (in a very very small sample size, though) that Atlanta is not a very good sports city?

It's pretty common knowledge that Atlanta is a shite sports town.

Caplewood has gotten you all so upset. Poor thing.

Everyone knows Atlanta is a transplant city with fairly shitty pro sports support.

How about Houston for comparison. Keep in mind that Houston is not a basketball town, has many transplants, and they've had trouble generating hype since they had the TV deal fiasco where nobody could watch the local teams. Keeping that in mind...

"Game 7 (against the Clippers) generated a massive 25.1 rating in the Houston market, making it the highest-rated NBA playoff game ever in the market, as far as records go back (2003)."

So yes, 10.1 seems pretty low...

It's what happens when one city is home to the greatest mlb franchise but has the worst nfl franchise.

You can't compare the national rating to the local rating when the local team is playing.

Game 7 against the Clippers did 5.8 nationally but 25.1 in Houston.

Atlanta is a transplant city. Almost everyone in that city is from somewhere else and do not support the local sports teams.

I believe 2 years ago Green Bay played the Falcons in the GA Dome and were out numbered at home!

Atlanta is in a win-win situation. Hawks win they're happy, Lebron wins they're ecstatic.

It was a legitimate question. I said myself that I don't really know if Atlabta is a shitty sports town, just that the popular opinion seemed to be that. I also said I wasn't even sure if a 10.1 was bad, I was trying to gauge if it was or not.

I think you're a little upset and quick to lash out that you're team is about to get swept by a team without their second and third best players. Maybe if Lebron starts 0-20 from the field next game you can squeak one out though

Eta- I also have no idea who cablewood is or wtf you're even referencing

Shitty sports town, if you think it's a shitty big city though you just don't know where to go or how to have fun

As a Braves fan I want to defend the city. As a Saints fan I'm ready to bash Atlanta. But at the end of the day I'm a fan of a baseball club that just happens to be located in Atlanta, not the city of Atlanta itself.

I'd like some context around those numbers (ie are they percentages, and what number Atlanta did in the first couple games), but a few things to consider:

- the Hawks are the least popular pro team here, whereas I'm guessing the Cavs with Lebron are Cleveland's most popular.

- yes there's more interest given this is the best Hawks team since they've been here, but... they'd just gotten blown out at home to go down 0-2 and lost Korver as well. so those new bandwagon fans probably didn't wanna tune in to a series that looked all but over.

It's not. You have been on this website since 2010. You know the answer to your question.

Yes you do.

I am so mad and butthurt. Forget the fact that they way over performed and exceeded anyones expectations. Am i disappointed they are gonna lose in the ECF? Yes. Still a great season worthy of praise.

That would help.
