Pretty self explanatory... Gonna grant my first baitcast in years and was wondering what y'all have enjoyed or heard good things about on the market now...

Gonna' jump on that Academy deal for the Shimano Citica G6
What's the difference in the 200 & 201 models?

Also I've decided to go Medium Heavy, Medium-Fast/ Fast on Rod. Preferences?

This thread makes me happy.

Shimano Citica ($90), Lews Speed Spool($90), Abu Garcia Orra SX ($100) Lews Tournament Lazer ($120)

Abu Garcia Vendetta ($80), Cabelas, BPS, and H2O rods are all really good for the money. They usually use really good blanks, and many use Fuji guides.

I have an okuma Citrix reel on a skeet Reese rod that I really like. That's about a $200 set up. I also have a shimano caius on an all star rod that's pretty nice and a lot cheaper than $200.

But used online. I rarely buy new rods and reel. A lot of times you're buying from guys that use them just a couple of times (if at all) and then sell them.

This. Or go with what Pogey said and get an all star. All in all I have never gone wrong with shimano both inshore and offshore.

Lew's Speed Spool Tournament MG. St. Croix has some rods in that price range. May put you a hair over $200. All Star is definitely going to have some good rods that you can pair with it that may keep you under $200

Citica on a Skeet Reese, have a couple setups and love them. The BPS pro qualifier is another good one, my next reel will probably be a Lews though.

Lew's tourney lite - $139
Cabela's tourney ZX - $70 when on sale.

A little more than what you're looking for, but worth every penny.

Can also find a Lew's tourney pro on amazon for around $150.

More important, than what you buy make sure you use the proper action rod and weight of line to match the weight of the bait. You can't worm fish with a crack bait rod and can't throw a small crankbai with a worm rod. If your just learning to cast these things that's the most important lesson. Good luck

shimano Citica or Lew's speed spool reel

Lew's rod or All star classic

you can mix and match either of these and have a nice setup for under $200 if you search the internet.

I'm a huge fan of the Lews BB1. However, it's $150. I would stay away from the Abu Garcia rods. Have had no luck with them. Up your budget and put it on a Duckett micro magic. If you have to choose between the 2, the rod is more important IMO.
