What's the going rate for a house sitter?

My wife's cousin is going to house sit for us for the next few weeks. I'm not sure what to pay the guy. Don't want to low ball him but also don't want to pay him more than he's worth. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just to sit at your house while you are out of town ? or watch the kids ?

depends on
1. how good she is at watching kids
2. how good she blows you

House sitters I've known usually do it for free...
but those where for weeks and months at a time. They basically lived there.

I wouldn't pay anymore than 1/2 or 1/3 of what it would take to board them. He gets to chill, eat your food, to let rover out and feed him.

Is sitting your house going to improve that person's lifestyle?
Do you have a pool or such?
Are you leaving them good food/drink?
Do you have nasty pets?

I'll go ahead and give an actual answer.
I pay a pet sitter $30 a day to come let the dog out 3 times a day. So I would say 40-50 bucks a day depending in what else he'd be doing, which doesn't sound like much.

I did this when I was in college. People payed me a few hundred bucks to watch a couple dogs and to drink their beer. Had people over damn near every night. Really cool family and when he came back he said "I'm glad you drank the beer I bought you". Fun couple weeks.

$100/week. A 28 year old can always use cash. If he refuses, buy him a gift.

100 a week sounds fair to me. Especially if you're trying to get him to mow your lawn and all that other shite.
Taking advantage of him because he is family is a sure fire way to not have anyone help you next time you leave town.
