That's even worse, we all know what happened. She dropped the charges out of either money or fear. Is common sense not allowed?
Sure it is. But not when deciding to punish or jail someone.

At the end of the day he was only suspended 6 games.
Because of his union. Not the NFL's policy.

At worst even if you look at the full year suspension that Ray Rice did not serve, that is still an equal punishment to smoking weed
Yes. 2 games was embarrassing. But moving forward, a year for 1st offense. Weed, a year is 4th offense. I'm not advocating it, just stating fact. Weed smokers, currently, get more chances.

what was more harmful to your career, failing two drug tests or an arrest for DUI/domestic violence?
Yes, but there has been a correction. Currently, domestic violence will get you a year for 1st offense.
quote:
the league was pressured into change that was necessary
An overhaul of their punishments was needed per offense. I think they have done that and are taking things more serious. However, you cannot discount the "rules are rules" when the NFL does not allow drugs. That is fact. Also, I will no longer discuss this.
No, I do not think the Saints should take a chance on Gregory at 13, unless absolutely no other big board player is there.

We're not talking about drugs, we talking about weed man!
I think he was being facetious, and hoping he would be available for the Saints to draft.

you're a fool. nobody is getting a year long suspension for smoking weed. players ARE getting them for REPEATEDL VIOLATIONS OF THE RULES. How the hell can you not distinguish the difference? Oh, I know how: It doesn't suit your platform. You will pick and choose out of facts and manipulate them to put together fallacies which support your weak position that holds as much water as a colander

Would prefer Collins as 13. Because you never know with guys like Gregory if they're going to be the next Aldon Smith or the next Dion Jordan.
He could potetinally be an All-Pro. But he has a low floor too. I wouldn't risk it. We can't afford to frick this pick up.

Maybe we can pay him in kilos, strictly for cap room purposes.

And he failed two tests for pot at Nebraska. How can teams trust him? I have a feeling that he gets drafted closer to 31 than 13.

he's been visiting teams picking in the 20's. Maybe he is gonna slip

Oh I know I was just messing with him back, but no one caught that.

Saints pick Scherff at 13
Saints trade 31 + 78 to Arizona for 24...picks Randy Gregory
Board completely covered in jizz

I don't think anyone thinks this. You are twisting his poor example to make him look bad. I don't even think anyone is saying that they expect football players to show up to games high/drunk.
I did not twist anything. He compared the situation of a player smoking pot in the offseason to a neurosurgeon getting high before surgery. The two are not comparable. A more apt comparison would be an actor, musician, or other entertainer getting high in their time off which no one gives a shite about.
Gregory was very stupid for smoking before the combine. It shows a lack of maturity and intelligence which is a big red flag that teams will go in depth with him about. However I believe the NFL's policy is naive and will change.
The current policy doesn't make sense for the NFL. Public perceptions of marijuana is changing towards acceptance particularly medicinal marijuana and the NFL publicizing failed drug tests for pot just brings a negative light upon them. I think the NFL will move to a more lax testing standard and will switch to testing at specific times hoping to avoid detection. Finally at some point they will switch to allow medicinal marijuana use.
It is a red flag for Gregory, but if the only bad character flaws he has are marijuana related and you think he is a special talent, I would not drop him too far down my board if I had one.

It's not the actually weed that's the problem. It's his complete and utter lack of following the rules. Whether we agree with them or not, they're in place. It shows a huge lack of self-restraint, maturity and intelligence that he's put himself in the situation more than once. To me, that's a big red flag moreso than just smoking the weed itself; I have no problem with the act, when it's allowed.

I agree. Not only that, people are forgetting the NFL's Substance Abuse Program is a bitch. Josh Gordon's last two suspensions have come from having extremely low THC levels in his system that is consistent with second hand smoke & for drinking beer on a flight to Las Vegas after the season with teammates. Matt Prater also got suspended 4 games because he drank beer on a vacation to Florida. Once a player is in the program they can't do shite or they risk the chance of suspension.

Yeah he's already in Stage 1 of the conduct policy. Just 2 frick up and there goes his season. No thanks on that risk.
Posted on 3/26/15 at 12:59 pm to PurpleDrank18
shite, one frick up now equals 4 games but yeah, frick taking that risk.
Posted on 3/26/15 at 1:03 pm to BigBrod81
I'd take that risk if you told me we would be taking it in the 2nd round.
We have a history of shitty 2nd round picks anyway, why not frick it up on someone with issues. If you fix it, you just got a top 10 talent. If you can't, you were going to frick it up anyway

I know most of you weed advocates have a very cloudy (Pun intended) view on why this doesn't seem like a big deal, but open your eyes. If someone offered you 10 million dollars to play football under the circumstances that you could not smoke weed, abuse your wife, or get into any kind of legal troubles, I'm pretty sure a rational, mature person would straighten up. That's the issue here. Character

well, the test begins now really... really not too much repercussions from smoking weed in college.
Posted on 3/26/15 at 1:09 pm to htran90
If the league’s substance abuse policy wouldn't be so screwed up, I would say go for it but we really can't afford to take anymore risk especially when this type of risk is staring you right in the face. After just doing some housekeeping, I'm not sure Payton is going to bring in a potential problem child.
