So it's my fault that some people are short sighted enough to let a single comment on a single website dictate whether the eat at a restaurant enough?

Yes, of course.

That's quite a burden you must now bear. For eternity apparently.

Jones ended up just tipping $50 for everyone, so that evened it out. So us fixing it ourselves is what keeps me from bringing it up to them.
She must not have been that bad to still give her 20%.

People who have worked in the service industry often give more than 20%...

I agree.
But, but I've gotten smarter and no longer blindly tip at least 20% just cause. Sadly my floor is usually 15% when at times it should probably be less.

Perfect response, people just want to complain about something. I've appreciated this thread and have been meaning to come to your restaurant.

This whole thread has been one unattended marketing genius. Unless ChefJ is way smarter than we think he is.

This doesn't apply to all places. Not every place is a sit-down restaurant.

Problem is that you aren't PM'ing your opinion and should be aware of this when posting about it.

Sorry I'm not for censorship. Are you against reviews of all sorts?

Heard him tell another party of 4 with a real bitch of a woman this: "Sir, the table of 12 next to us is way too loud and they're being quite obnoxious" - Response: "Ma'am, were quite full tonight and I could use your table to seat some other people who aren't gonna bitch about everything... I think you need to leave"!

Was he the owner of the restaurant that has recently reopened?

To All,

Who here actually complains at a restaurant? Frankly, if I don't like the food or service at a restaurant I just don't go back. Problem solved. If the owner, manager or server asks me, "How was everything?", I just say "Good," even if it wasn't.

Nearly all restaurant owners will tell you that they want to hear about any problems that you experience, but the fact is most don't. And that's fine by me. It isn't the customer's job to fix a sorry arse restaurant.

Unless asked for by the company themseleves. i.e. Ebay or their website (business front).

At least at that point they know what they have committed to.

I ask people I know/trust for restaurant opinions. I have asked R2R for restaurant recs before and would do it again.

btw, it isn't censorship.

She didn't necessarily deserve 20%, but we were rowdy from drinking all day so I'm sure we were a pain in some regard.

Those in the business can answer this...is this really true? If so, that's fine. I'm curious now. Either way, I doubt it will stop me from talking to others, here or in person, about a place.

Chef, you are oblivious to what most online reviews are about. I don't think I've ever read a review where someone suggested that a business make major changes to the way it is being run. Like I said earlier, most reviews are about quality of food and service, which can be valuable to customers. It's obvious that you run a good ship at Boca but not everybody has the experience that you have and online reviews can be quite helpful in identifying ways to improve, other than learning through several years of experience.

My motivation to read and respond to reviews would be low too if I had a packed house every night.

What about for movies? Do you not check out reviews for those?

Saying that people shouldn't post about their opinions or negative (or positive) experiences at restaurants is very close to censorship. I suppose if you had the power it enforce your beliefs it would be censorship, but now it's just an attempt at suppression

If I order a medium-rare bone-in filet and it shows up medium-well, I am sending it back. Not complaining, just asking for what I ordered.

If I order something and do not care for it, thats my fault.

If the service is exceptionally poor... A meal is forgotten, an appetizer is forgotten, etc.... Given the circumstance & establishment will likely determine what I say. Typically when my entree arrives and the salad or app was forgotten, I will say to the server "we did not get X... But since our meal is here, we mo longer want it." I do expect, at that point, for the establishment to remove said item from my bill.

I have never, nor will ever, tell someone how to run or change their restaurant. Ive come to dine - thats it.

If service is poor, food is not prepared correctly, and the owner asks me how was my evening - I will tell the truth. And honestly, regardless of what he says/does will not affect whether I return or not. In most cases, I am a 3 strike ur out kinda guy.... But there are places that one trip is all I needed to never return.

Just how It goes down over here

Here is a recent review from a restaurant receiving 2 stars...

quote:

-baked goat cheese app, don't even bother. It was a clump of goat cheese, baked (in some type of wonton wrapper-esque deal), but not even really crisp or anything. Served haphazardly on a bed of greens (arugula if I remember correctly), which seems to be a theme here

Here is the pic of the app we got, that was really good. Filo/Fillo/Phyllo dough not a wonton wrapper for starters, crispy bottom from the onion/balsamic fricassee was not even mentioned. Not sure of the cooking method used, possibly baked because the inside was perfect.

Just saying, the review left off a major part of the dish in exchange for ranting.

Not usually, I guess a friend saying I should check it out is closest I get to a review.

It's the perfect play after the rash of meltdowns by other restaurant owners. He could have a shitty restaurant and posters would be praising him for his honestly.

Not to mention it took all the heat off of his good friend's "the sammich" threas. Sammich guy owes this guy a beer

Sorry that your wonderful idea of a rational, informative thread has gone the way of pretty much every thread ever started on TigerDroppings. The arguing, bitching, and one-upmanship/womanship has reared it's ugly head yet again.

Oh well, it was a very nice thread while it lasted. To think people were concerned about you posting on the board. If it was my place to apologize I certainly would.
