Press Release

LSU accounting students passed the CPA exam at 69.1% a huge increase from what it was just a few years ago.

Stats taken from the LSU System Institution's Metric Data for Feb 2012 show the following

2006-2007 36%
2007-2008 37%
2008-2009 36%
2009-2010 39%

LSU has gone from downright abysmal to one of the elite schools in the country when ranking the accounting program on CPA pass rate. Kudos to the kids that studied hard and are now out there making OT ballin money

Is that for each part of passing all 4 parts within a certain time frame?

So they finally learned how to cheat. Go for them. That skill will probably take them further in life than the actual degree.

...those from LSU taking the test for the first time averaged a pass-rate of 69.1 percent of the parts attempted – high enough to rank the university No. 8.

Gotcha. My BIL graduated from UNO a couple years ago and found out he passed his last part yesterday. Had he not his first two were about to drop off. He said he passed by 2 points

Not that I would know, but just because they make more doesn't mean the work doesn't suck.

That is each individual part. The % of passing all 4 parts the first time is around 10%. That is why I LOL when engineers and lawyers complain about the PE or the Bar

ETA: Not saying those are worse professions by any means

Accounting/Engineering are both great degrees to get. The work is just for different types

The only hard part about CPA test from what I've seen is making time to study during busy season. My BIL said if he didn't have to work and just focus on the test he'd pass them no problem.

He barely studied as it was according to him.

I am very glad we only take two test to become licensed engineers though as opposed to 4 that can drop off.

It is a mile wide and only an inch deep. The actual test is not difficult, but the amount of material you have to try and learn that could potentially be on the test feels overwhelming when working 50-60 hour weeks

This is potentially huge for LSU. The schools that beat them out are all elite accounting schools. Michigan, Indianna, BYU, UT Austin. If LSU students can prove this isn't an anomaly then pushing the school to elite status would really help out the business school as a whole. You will start to see more national recruiters at the job fairs. Higher salaries for the students.

All good stuff to hear. Props to the Business School. At least for this year
