It's only ranked 8th "out of the 40 universities in the country with the most exam candidates" which is still good but isn't 8th nationally. A lot of larger schools aren't that good or at least aren't that selective.

Without the raw data I can't tell you how this is misleading. But I know the schools ranked above and below them are top notch accounting schools.

is there even a list of the other 39 universities who were included in the ranking?

It's still a good ranking because even if it's only compared to 39 of the largest schools it includes a lot of flagship state universities.

These numbers are so bad there's no way they're right. The national pass rate is just under 50%.

I pulled those numbers right off of LSU's website. If the national pass rate is 50% is it possible that LSU was below average academically during that time period.

I love guys that comment on how difficult something is based off of their brother in laws analysis. Regardless of what he tells you, people don't "barely study" and pass that exam.

It's definitely not an easy test by any means but putting in the hours to study is a big part of it.

Bingo. Put the time in and you'll get the license. A cpa license is as diverse of a certification you can get because every company needs CPAs. I still remember many many years ago one of the ole professors saying accounting majors were the smartest ones in the class because accountants are the only job mandated by Congress - believe he was referencing SOX and how public Co financial have to be audited

Anywhere from 150 - 200 hours of studying per test is about average. Some people can do it in about 100 hours of studying per test. Its definitely much more difficult than the upper level accounting courses in college by a considerable margin. Only about 16% of people pass all four parts on the first try and we're talking college graduates here... not people who got their GED.

The national pass rate was probably closer to 40% in the years that you quoted, but it's up to around 50% now.

The pass rate is around 50% but there is a very good chance that you will fail at least one exam. Anyone saying that the exam is easy is full of shite. Yes, accounting in general is based on simple arithmetic but the amount of information on the exams is ridiculous.

Right, but the pass rate wasn't 50% 5 years ago when the LSU pass rate was below 40%.

Yeah the pass rates have increased recently. You are right, the pass rates used to hover around 40% +/- 2% or so.

The only hard part about CPA test from what I've seen is making time to study during busy season.

I don't know how someone could study effectively during busy season. Audit and FAR will consume you. Can't imagine trying to work 55-60 hours a week on top of that.

No CPA test prep @ LSU, although advanced acct helps significantly for FAR

I'll definitely be going through my old advanced notes when I take FAR.

AUD & BEC can be passed with under 100 hours of studying; the other two require a bigger time commitment.

REG was easier than I imagined it would be. They do a pretty good job at not testing minuscule details. It's fairly surface level stuff; the material isn't as complex as some of the stuff covered in corp tax at LSU.

Taking my last exam (Regulation) this week. To me it seems equally as difficult as FAR.

You are 100% correct. I was fortunate enough to pass all four parts on the first attempt and it was one of the more challenging things I've ever done. I would wake up at 5AM study for an hour and a half, work all day, come home at 5 and study for a couple of more hours. Did this daily for 6 months straight. People who say "it's easy" are idiots. Just a comp, the LA Bar exam had a pass rate of 70%. The CPA exam is less than 50% And there are four of them.
