Google Doubles Capacity of Play Music Libraries to 50K Songs

Good news for Google Play Music users today, as the company has doubled your music library capacity from 25,000 songs to 50,000. Boom. And better yet, it is all free. Google is bringing more value to the service, which now trumps offers from other competitors like Spotify and Apple.
Just to be clear, this offer is for both paid subscribers and users of the free Google Music service. Paid subscribers gain access to millions of songs for streaming and radio, while free Music users are limited to songs that they themselves must upload to the cloud. But still, free storage for 50,000 songs is quite impressive.

that seems pretty pointless for 99% of people.
They need to add more songs.

Really?
Most people over 30 already had a decent digital music collection before the streaming services got started.

just seems like way more songs than 99% of people bother to have.

36 year old male with 2,273 tracks. I stream mostly iRadio and Songza (I've been a fan of them for years).
Google is trying to work against what Apple's putting together. The relaunch of iTunes with Beats Streaming Service and the curated playlists are on their way shortly. Should be interesting to see how Apple blends iRadio, Beats Music Streaming, and iTunes purchases. The word is that they will move away from track sales in iTunes and pivot towards streaming in a big way, with tons of artist and record company support and input.

I'm in that age range and have been ripping my own CDs since the early days of MP3s. But I don't understand how you people have that much music. Do you rip entire albums rather than the 2 songs per album you actually like?

I would rip the entire album. Put the cd in, select all, then rip.

Maybe not 99%, but I couldn't tell you the last time I downloaded a song, or listened to one that I had acquired...I am 33..

And they hired Trent Reznor to consult them on the project..
It's going to be interesting but I just made the long 7 year iOS switch to android and Ive always had google services so it was too late for me.
It will be interesting though.

Sometimes I think I'm the only one that uses iTunes Radio. I've probably logged over 1,000 hours of listening to Cello Essentials alone.
Great for Google Users. I hope Apple matches it with iTunes Match. I certainly have gotten rid of a lot of shitty music (~300 albums of shitty shitty Screw, i kept the good stuff though) because of the 25k limit, but would rather not have to.

I really like iTunes Radio. Especially with no commercials with my iTunes Match.

I torrent my music, but it still took me a long time to get to the ~8,000 songs I have now.
