Remington was bought by Freedom Arms/Cerberus in 2007. Quality headed downhill soon thereafter.

Spray the receiver and barrel with some Kyrlon.

That 870 will shoot all day with rust on it. Mine has been used as a paddle and push pole before. Lots of guns will rust if you get them wet and don't clean them for 2 days

It is currently covered in rabbit blood from 2 years ago

I just tape mine up with some camo cloth tape every year. It goes on sale at walmart right after hunting season. Can get the roll that's $7 during hunting season for $1 in March.

That camo cloth tape makes a regular ole 700 adl look like a sniper rifle. Took mine off because it wasn't sticking anymore

So you wont buy another 870 because they rust and not because of functionality? Has it jammed? If it hasnt, then isnt it doing it's job? My Beretta barrel rusts if it gets wet and I dont wipe it and oil the exterior after every hunt. It happens.

Got my 870 Express in 1989. Went hunting with it in Sabine Refuge (brackish marsh) the next year. First time came out of that marsh had rust on it before I got it home to clean it. Scrubbed it to death..no joy.

Adds character. Only thing that 870 did that I didn't like was when the forearm grip split down the middle, right in the middle of a flock of teal. Bought another one...and it's still on there.

Only problem I have with the EXPRESS is the finish...but I figure I can get it refinished for not a lot of money...but for a $180 gun when it was bought...and the amount of shells that have been thru it...I can't complain one damn bit.

All the Remington Matte finish rifles and express type shotguns are horrible for rusting in my experience.

Love love love my 870 Express. Shucked a lot of shells through it over the past ~30 years, and have shot everything from geese in Iowa to deer in Michigan to using it as the aforementioned push pole in the Wax. And it has not once malfunctioned, even as my teenage sons started a second generation of popping caps in it.

I bought my wingmaster from Sears in 79 for $250. 3 inch wasn't out yet. A few years later I split the barrell crawling geese. I replaced barrell with a 3 in ribbed and have shot 3 inch out of it since. No problems except the ejector spring broke once. It was a $5 part and $50 to get the old one out and new one in (riveted).

Love that gun.

Not true. My 935 didn't and it was sitting right beside it.

I sold my previous 870 express because it jammed like crazy and rusted if you just talked about water around it.

I'm glad so many people love their 870's. I haven't had good luck with them so I won't be buying another.

I was brought up to take care of my stuff which includes cleaning my guns. I typically only clean my gun once after season is over unless I'm hunting in a torrential downpour like I did on Sat.

Yes, I spent an hour and 45 cleaning my son's 870. It's his only shotgun and I want to teach him to take care of his stuff. He was there with me so I could show him how to take it down, clean it, remove rust, etc.

My 12 year old 870 sat in Rita's water for 3 days. It made the barrel look totally different but kinda of cool in a way.

Still shoots like a champ!!

But I just broke down and bought a Franchi affinity, which is 1000's times lighter. Can't wait to shoot it!

My 20 yo 870 is the only gun I would not consider selling.

The only one
