Why so mad?
It is a durable INEXPENSIVE gun. Wingmaster was the shite.
Can you explain how your's jammed? Those words are never words that Ive ever used in the same sentence as mine. And I don't clean mine often. a spray of oil here and there and a wipe of the outside IMMEDIATELY upon returning.
So you leave it sitting around wet for an extended period of time. Seems the lesson he learned is how hard it is to fix something you procrastinated on in the first place.
For rust to occur you need 3 things, metal, air, and moisture. If you wiped the moisture off, there could be no rust.
You "may" have a defective situation...contact the manufacturer.

Yes, shoddy workmanship. Wouldn't allow the new shell to slide smoothly into the chamber. Too many sharp, unfinished edges. Then, the fired shell would stick in the chamber. Had to disassemble the gun in the field several times to remove the shell.

Thanks, your sarcastic insight is insightful.
I already said I didn't have time to get to it right away. I usually clean things up "If needed" right away. I'm glad yours is the epitome of reliability and workmanship. Congratulations!

You might have a defective gun, because even though an 870 express is not as "finished" as a wingmaster, every one i have ever owned has functioned flawlessly and never had problems anything close to this. My son has 2 of the youth models as well and they have functioned well except for the recoil...

This is very common with the 870s under the "new" remington ownership. They are not fully smoothing the forcing cone down and the shells are catching. This is something that can be easily fixed with a Dremel, but some people don't tolerate manufacturing defects in new firearms.
That said, all of my 870s run like a top, but they are pre-Cerebus

I know man, sometimes life is tough, unforgiving, unyielding, often unfair. Many times after coming in from hunting, I just didn't have an extra 20 seconds in the next several days to rub my old oily rag on the metal of my gun. And besides, Remy ain't werf a shite, anyway. You'll knock their pecker in the dirt by not buying another one.

If you had time to wipe it down and wait for the compressor to fill up you had time to clean an 870. Takes about 10-15 min. Makes sure to rub some oil on the outside of the gun after cleaning to prevent this in the future. I've had my 870 since I started duck hunting as a youth, never had any issues. Coincidentally, I bought a Mossberg pump back then first, had to return it after the first skeet session and got the 870.

And your other one is a Mossberg?

Not true. My 935 didn't and it was sitting right beside it.
quote:You weren't taught well. Wipe it down after every hunt and anytime a finger touches metal. Salt from you fingers brah, rust.
I was brought up to take care of my stuff which includes cleaning my guns. I typically only clean my gun once after season is over unless I'm hunting in a torrential downpour like I did on Sat.

Game wardens took my 870 when they caught me spotlighting at age 17. I bought a new one the next morning when I bonded out of EF parish prison. And I've used them as a paddle when In a bind. Best thing about 870, they're replaceable.

No problem bub. As you can tell from the rest of the responses, we think it dumb you didn't get to it sooner. You crow about teaching him how to take care of things, yet you neglected to properly complete the hunt process. Telling me you had time to wipe and blow it of, yet not spray wd or gun oil on it and wipe is insane! We are talking 5 seconds. No need to disassemble each time.

I'm glad y'all have everything figured out and you obviously know my life better than I do. Thanks for allowing me to express "my" opinion based solely on "my" experience and then telling me how "my" experience is obviously wrong.

Man, if I lived by your philosophy on guns, I'd need a new 870 every year.

Don't hate on the most reliable shotgun on the market
You should probably go ahead to the help board and request a name change to ducksndumbass!

Your opinion is welcome and respected.....but the methods you used to form them are flawed.
Showing son how to take care of things
cleaning wet gun 4 days later
Please tell us you see the irony of your ways. You dropped the ball here, but I am not so sure I am better than you at anything. Never said that....relax Alice

an 870 is like a black iron pot, never clean it
I shoved a shell in the mag backwards one day when the shooting was hot. I field stripped it to get the shell out. The firing pin and mechanism all fell in the rice field at my feet. I pulled it out of the muck, rinsed it in the pond water, reassembled and started shooting for another hour. I don;t know how else to try to kill an 870

quote:Mine would, sorta. Years ago I had picked one up at a pawn shop for 50 bucks to throw in back of pickup for around farm. Ended up loving it for duck season leaving Browning A-5's in gun cab.
a pump jammed?
It was old and I used it a lot. Eventually the thin metal strips on each side, that allow the forearm slide down to eject shells, were not aligned right and it wouldn't eject sometimes. I'd have to hold hand on the wood and bang it down.
