Yeah, something that can easily be used as a weapon against me. No, thanks.

No Brie, deli meat, seafood, caffeine, shellfish, and sushi during pregnancy?

The Brie thing is news to my ears.

You can have some caffeine.

Eta: you can have some seafood too. And deli meats can be eaten if warmed in an oven.

I think many of these things are more of "you might as well not if you can help it" but aren't necessarily harmful if handled correctly and in moderation.

Never hear of it. So, no, I gave her a kid that I'm still paying for.

You don't really understand what a "gift" is, do you?

Sure I do. I'd much rather give someone a gift to show my appreciation for something they have done for me (maybe carry and birth my child) rather than give a gift just because I am socially obligated to do so on a particular. You're not giving the push present as a form of "payment" for carrying and birthing the child but as a sign of love and appreciation for all that person went through to bring your child into the world. JMO, but I think a gift is much more warranted in that situation

Yeah I think a guy wanting to buy a gift for her is a very sweet gesture. But it shouldn't be something the woman expects.

Agreed.

I've heard of some people demanding one, which I think is ridiculous. My push present for both of ours was a c-section.

Hell no. Had never even heard of it until a year or two ago.

This shite has been going on for a very long time. They just started calling it "push present" and people got all up in a tissy.

shite. A few bucks for a woman that did a lot more than I did to say thanks ain't worth getting on your soap box.

I didnt give it to a woman who expected it. I gave it to one that deserved it.

I got my wife and daughter some birthstone jewelry when she was born. My wife's birthday is two days before my daughters though.

My wife and I talked about it. We decided that it was a giant waste of money.

My kid is 6 months old and my wife is still nagging me about a push present. I guess paying the hospital bill wasn't enough.

Just to reinforce this, my wife and I have two kids (the latest one born about 6 weeks ago) and the answer to this is absolutely not. She's having a child, I have no idea why that deserves a present, women have been doing it for thousands of years without one.
