I'm a fan of zwave based vs quirkys ZigBee since zwave is a generic mesh and ZigBee seems to be manufacturer specific

Bump. Paired my intermatic and 2 used eBay leviton switches. Was a snap.
The trick is to find a simple switch near the hub and wire each device in turn to ensure it pairs successfully then take it out where you want it.
I just used the generic zwave switch option in wink.
Can't wait to try wiring this up this weekend.

Is Wink still the go-to hub? I'm getting a new house in a month and want to start automating.

It's a good idea to rediscover the network once you have the devices in place.

I think it's the best of the bunch right to be honest. Certainly it has some challenges but the biggest concern IMO for DIY home automation is having someone to help with problems.
To date wink support has been stellar. They stay on the phone as long as you need.. They don't even ask me who I am before they start answering questions and not only do they pick up after 15 seconds or so but they often call me back to check if everything is good and both send me emails and reply to me if I respond to them.
So yes I think wink is the way to go right now.

My pool switch should be here tomorrow. Also had to pick up a harmony home remote yesterday. Can't wait to hook it up with Alexa. At least my hue lightstrips turn on/off with my tv now.

DAMMIT! 
Pool house wiring in the switch only has line and load and ground. No neutral so I can't use the smart switch.
The good news is that the wink is seeing it across the yard and when I connect the load to the neutral I can use wink to activate it (it just won't turn light off.. Light stays on even if I try turning switch off manually) but it's getting the signal loud and clear.
Crap. I could use the ground to fake neutral but I know that is a big no no.

I have one of the ge zwave dimmer switches that doesn't need neutral if you want to trade a tapt

Didn't even realize there was support like that. Figured it was all user support through forums, blogs, etc. Good to know.

My dog knocked my harmony one on the ground and cracked the screen...perfect timing for that to happen 
I'm enjoying so far even though ive set up limited routines. It's finally given me the push to set up large automating sequences for Alexa.

I don't have any experience with the ecobee but it looks like a really nice device.

I've enjoyed my Ecobee so far (2 weeks)... With the remote sensors I've learned that I have a 6 degree temperature difference at almost any time of day between my son's room and our Master (this unit makes sure all areas with sensors stay within your comfort settings as much as it can). My next purchase may be smart vents to regulate this, but I will wait and see how it reacts to the higher temperatures coming and if the disparity continues. With the recent non-extreme temperatures neither my heater or a/c has had to run much at all.

i think the flair sensor/vent combo is PERFECT for this application. do the ecobee remote sensors detect humdity?
we are having nice weather here at the moment, but i want the remote sensor in my son's room to monitor the temp and turn on an outlet the humidifier is plugged into if it starts getting too dry in his room and off when it reaches a comfortable level.

Not sure if I mentioned this yet, but Home Depot/Wink are renegotiating their deal to carry the Wink Relay. I'm still sitting on mine, but will probably return it. Just don't see any justification with Alexa around.

i've joined the automation world (if you don't count my smart thermostat that i've had for about 8 months) with my SmartThings hub. Installed a fan and light switch over the weekend.
