They went shotgun like 75% of the time, with 3+ receivers. It was a spread offense.

You're a sharp guy, but its all semantics.
LSU needs to modernize. Not full out Oregon, I would hate that. But if abandoning the entire term "pro style" as an identity is what is needed, then I think we should do it.

Even what Arkansas and especially Bama run would be a big step in the right direction. Both run pro style offenses. Bama especially runs a lot of pro style spread. Still can be run heavy from the spread. Look at what Oregon does. Lot of misdirection and lot of running. But running in space.

No to the spread. Nothing wrong with running the ball but my goodness do we have to line up with two TEs and run the ball up the middle to start every half of football and 90% of first downs. There is no creativity at all. Run the ball, play action, get TEs involved in the passing game, and mix in screens and a few WR bubble screens ala what Bowe used to do.

that would be a move in the right direction but why not go all the way with what is working in todays football. It's what the pros do. It is what colleges do. It is what high schools do. I don't get what people have against a system that works in todays world.

I prefer the pro style offense but I do agree that we need to recruit players that fit our style.

the "spread" includes the spread option, which is a lot of rushing the ball. do you think Auburn doesn't run enough?

based on what?? Even the pros don't run the so called this pro style anymore. Well I'll backtrack a little. It really is just a matter of semantics. Call it what you want. But the NFL is lining up a lot more in pistol and shotgun, multiple wideouts, passing to the backs, passing to the TE's. The NFL has become much more of a passing league. When they do run they like to get there backs in space. Opens up the run game. Still can be a run heavy team from the spread. Just spreads out the D so there Is room to run. Also don't have to have a mobile QB. Look at the Saints, Broncos, and Patriots. Lots of NFL teams without mobile QB's that use spread concepts.

So do I but, we can't seem to find players capable of learning it for the most part.
I'll tell you one thing, what we're doing now isn't working.

i think we just need to modernize and run a single back rushing offense. use 3 WR sets and 2 TEs and ditch teh fullback
use lots of formations and run the same plays. that's the key to the air raid offense (which is really simple). supposedly our offense is very complex and hard for young QBs/WRs to learn (Whcih is mind blowing)
simplify the offense
go single back/pistol to open up our formations
run a more diverse rushing offense
use the new formations to run the plays from different formations
that's where football is moving. it doesn't have to be a HUNH offense or a super passing spread or anything

True, though for some reason they are still lining up with :01 on the clock to snap it on on the 12th inside run in 13 plays

Put our talented athletes in open space and they will perform a lot better than running up the middle on every darn play.
