The problem is obvious. High Schools all over the country are running the spread offense. Louisiana and Texas certainly are among them. LSU recruits players who are from teams which run the spread. We then take these same players and plug them into a state of the art 1960 Big Ten style I formation offense and expect them to have amazing results.

We all know that Les Miles has at least one or more seasons before Alleva will even entertain the idea of replacing him. The best we can do is to beat the drum as loud as possible and force Les Miles to change his offensive philosophy and move to a spread offense like so many other successful programs have done. Hell, if Nick Saban saw the writing on the wall and did it then, you know that the trend is here to stay.

The bottom line is that LSU has to adapt to the times or we will be left behind.

I've been considering this a lot this season.

I am not against it, but really LSU needs to just be balanced.. with legit QB play.

Does not matter what offense we run Miles will meddle. Ask Crowton.

Les Miles seems to put way too much stock in his number of NFL players that he churns out. That's all great however, he is here to win games at LSU. not to be a farm team for the NFL. We need an offensive philosophy that works. We have crazy talent with our athletes. I way let them do what they are good at which is getting open in space. It would be a game changer for the SEC if we every wake up and modernize this team.

the pro style system is superior to the spread or spread option...esp the HUNH

the problem is the pro style requires vastly superior talent, esp at OL and QB

spread/spread options mask inferior QB/OL talent, basically

if we have the QB/OL, our offense is fine (see: 2013). the issue is this staff isn't very good or consistent in recruiting and developing QBs. 1 year out of 7 under les (post-Saban QBs)

and it has nothing to do with mobile QBs. we won 2 titles with QBs similar to jennings in terms of arm an running

They don't need a spread they just need some creativity. Backs out of back field more than one WR set.

You guys wanted a pro set when we were running a spread.

What we need is competency and consistency.

We don't need the spread. We just need a pro-style offense thatis not 85% run.

An elite defense will shutdown a spread offense (ie Oregon). You need a good power running game to beat a good defense, but you need balanced playcalling. We are far from balanced.

Our offense is so simplistic. I don't even remember when's the last time a WR WENT IN MOTION pre-snap.

Also, did you see what happened last time when a Bo Schembechler offense transitioned to a spread? Michigan still has not recovered from the Rich Rod era.

LSU needs true power-I quarterbacks if it is insistent on running it.

They keep recruiting spread quarterbacks to run the power-I and it ain't a good fit.

So, yes. I agree.

Crowton is one of the fathers of the spread offense

we ran a lot of spread and spread option concepts around miles' i-form in 09/10

crowton was brought in to transition LSU to that kind of hybrid offense. JJ was the QB for the offense

we also had stud adopt zone-blocking to adapt to the offensive system, which set us back...then we went man...now we're back to zone

Nah. we need the offense we had last year.

Last year was the perfect pro style offense.

If we can't get that, we need a stanford or arkansas style offense.

Pretty similar to ours except they actually use TEs in the passing game to make up for their subpar QBs.

there is no such thing as a "true power-i quarterback"

But if it makes bad players that good, how good would the good players looked if the good players looked good?

Even the NFL is starting to run more shotgun and uptempo stuff. This offense being run now is NOT a pro style offense. Maybe in the 60's but not now.

.
.the thing is that the pros run a form of the spread, not air raid spread, but a pro style spread much more than they run the I.

Our offense in 2007 was basically Crowton's shotgun, 4 wide spread you out and chuck it offense with a power run game attached.

They tried the same in 08 and 09 and things fell apart because of young QBs and Gary's inability to coach them up.

it's a very nice wrinkle to have

LSU tries hurry up/no huddle stuff, too, even with pro-form

pro-style is a term. it is basically a run/pass offense that was not the option (which dominated college), back in the day.

we never ran anything resembling a spread. We ran some weird formations with Crowton. He may have mixed some spread in like Cam does.
