In the best interest of society, this cop is exactly the type of person who should never be allowed to get anywhere close to firearms.

He's way too high-strung.

how is this not attempted murder?

if any citizen shoots at another citizen, wether they hit them or not, they will be charged with attempted murder.

I don't think it's attempted murder but something more along the lines of assault with a deadly weapon.

I'm not an attorney. I'm just guessing.

One of the main reasons to distrust cops to the utmost degree. Look how quickly that guy was shot and nearly killed. Seconds. For not wearing his seatbelt. Boot lickers should think about that the next time they take their seatbelt off in the car.

What an ultramaroon. 99% of male drivers have their license in their pocket. How can the cop possibly be concerned that he reached into his pocket??

That guy is too stupid to be a cop.

Actually he was reaching back into his car (perhaps his armrest?) & not his wallet. I usually tell these trigger happy cops that 'my insurance/registration is in the glove compartment before reaching for it.

The trooper tells the man 'you dove head 1st into the car' which is obvious bs. The guy should be grateful for dash cams or else the Cop would have been given the benefit of the doubt , as usual.

I agree however that the cop is too afraid/trigger happy to be a damn cop.

It's been told to me by every cop I know, and mentioned by several people on here as well, cops are trained to shoot to kill not maim or disable. So, how is it not attempted murder if his intent when he pulled his weapon was to kill?

Piece of fricking shite cop... The guy didn't go into his car in a fast manner, he slowly leaned over and the cop opened fire.

Exact instances when the cop should be able to be held civilly liable for his actions. The guy should sue the cop for pain and suffering.

If people wonder why everyday citizens are developing such a negative view of the police, this is a good reason why. It's just maddening how cops have decided that the people they're supposed to "serve and protect" are apparently the enemy.

This behavior is nothing new. It's been going on for years, but with the advent of dash cams and citizens with video capable cell phones, it's more out in the open.

Not only would I press charges against this idiot, I would sue everything and everyone associated with him.

Pull his weapon...MAYBE..but there was no call to open fire whatsoever.

And thats the issue... He is likely untouchable in a civil manner. He will hide behind the city or his union.

This is the exact reason I keep saying that the laws need to be changed to make cops accountable for actions like this.

they're trained to shoot for center mass, which he did here (explains why the victim was shot in the hip)

This guy is lucky the dash cam wasn't mysteriously "non-operational" and that the cop has such terrible aim that three shots only grazed his hip. (Even with all that, that he was fired and charged without an apparent peep from the union tells me the cop was probably a serial frick-up.)
That is the best part of this whole thing. I counted 4 shots all withing 10 feet of the guy... the last two while the guy was standing straight up with his hands in the air not moving at the least.

I think he was fired for being such a lousy shot. Lucky he didn't kill a few bystanders or blow up the gas station.

Did the cop like dive behind the car for cover?
