Sadly that's how we do things these days. Every Christmas there will be news stories on late packages that probably equal a thousandth of a percent of a company's total volume yet they get raked over the coals anyway, and the public piles on because with the way the debate is framed, it would make them bad people if they didn't. "Evil Retailer ruins Christmas for hundreds of children" gets a lot more clicks and generates a lot more public response than "Average Retailer just like everyone else, 99% of packages delivered on time."

It wasn't "easy" for him to bend it either. You can see him shaking. But it definitely seemed more difficult for him to bend the other, thicker and smaller metal phones
Exactly. It's pretty clear he applied a good bit of force. It wasn't like he was bending the side of a coke can but on the flip side, the video is what it is.
Unless you're a child or very feeble, you can bend it with your hands by applying a good bit of force in the right place. However, for the way the vast majority of people use their phones, this really shouldn't be a concern.

Maybe someone will run their own test and go into the Verizon/AT&T/Sprint/T-Mobile store and check out the new Bend feature of an iPhone 6+ and video themselves and the reaction of the staff? That would be fun to watch!
quote:
"Hey, I read online these things have a new feature that let you bend the phone into your own shape. Cool!
So, I put pressure on it like this, right? Oh, wow! It works!

Marques Brownlee broke his hand trying to bend the iPhone

Should have just put it in his pocket like everyone else if he wanted to bend it

FACT - iphone 6+ has a weak area susceptible to bending.
FACT - any idiot can tell you a carpenter with a torque wrench could do a fairly scientific test to determine the force required to bend it. no 'shaking hands' youtube anecdotal evidence needs to exist..although this idiot got THIRTY-THREE MILLION view doing exactly that.
FACT - apple knows its an issue or perceived issue..either way its irrelevant. they are required to respond.
FACT - apple will (or has already) adjusted production to address the weak area. fabrication isn't rocket science. a newer version of the iphone 6+ is probably already underway in china that has resolved the problem.
FACT - this WILL go away over time..but in the interim android fans will smugly FARK apple ads and rabid apple fanboys will foam at the mouth and claim its not an issue while at the same time they'll likely be all over it once apple's tweaked phones start flooding the market.
in the long term this has no effect on apple's bottom line or anyone else's except the people getting ad views by riling up the interwebz.

Bend video already posted by stout - just linking it for the comments
quote:
This is not a real feature. If any of you have been paying attention to the news, this is actually a defect in the way of the phone was designed. From these defects, to the expensive data plans, to the ways they track down your data and information, children should be explicitly forbidden from having access to these devices. You better believe that Apple cares just as much about the structural integrity of its phones as it does about protecting children from dangerous predators.?
quote:
It's not the entitled american douche bag who suffers for this, it's the chinese peasant worker who made a couple of dollars to produce that phone. You're basically shitting on people who are committing suicide to bring these phones to the USA by playing these stupid fricking games on spoiled hipster Americans.?
quote:
Stupid people, don't go & actually fricking do this to your phone. The iPhone 6 is like an erect penis; it's not supposed to bend that way. ?
quote:
Is this video meant to be a sarcastic joke or they're actually promoting the new feature? I'm confused. I'm seeing many people actually doing it in the comments. Don't fall for it. ?
quote:
This may be funny, but please, stop spending time talking about something that you don't like.

I do agree with your points though. Apple needs to fix this, even if it's "only a few" and "slight bending".

@ConsumerReports: CR lab results: Takes at least 70lbs of force to permanently bend iPhone 6 and HTC One M8 #BendGate Video: LINK
@ConsumerReports: Lab tests in: iPhone 6+ withstood 90 pounds of force before bending #BendGate Video: LINK
Two days ago, the Internet erupted with photos of bent iPhone 6s, and a very-viral video of a guy creasing an iPhone 6 Plus with his bare hands. It seemed like a serious concern, yet everything about the uproar was highly unscientific. We don’t like unscientific, so we promised then that we would use our lab equipment to find out just how delicate the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus really are. We also promised to run the same tests on comparable smart phones. We’ve done that now, and our tests show that both iPhones seem tougher than the Internet fracas implies.
