1. Too expensive
2. Feeds in to an already death loving culture/society ('Merica)
3. Is not a deterrent to crime
4. Its victims are primarily the poor
5. Innocent people have been and will continue to be executed

Name an innocent person who's been executed.
The death penalty hasn't really been tried. And yet some analysis still shows a deterrent effect.

I agree that, like many other things the govt does, the DP is good in principle but poorly executed (pun intended).

Tonight Texas killed a woman because she tortured and starved a 9 year old boy to death.
If it cost a little more to kill her versus feed and support her for the next 40 years, I'm ok with that.

Just a local example.
Dig into the shite Derrick Todd Lee did to I think Charlotte Pace. The one that was located at Sharlo.
Something like 65 knife/screw driver punctures while she fought for her life.
You expect tax payers to pay for his jailing for 50 more years? Man frick that shite.

It should be used very rarely, but there are no doubt people who deserve to die. You're gonna ask, who determines that? I do.
Cases where guilt isn't even a question, Jeffery Dahmer(body parts in his freezer), John Wayne Gacy(29 bodies buried in his basement), and other notable examples. These are the types of cases where the DP should be used.

It's the Christian principles the country was founded no that really supports the death penalty.
Jesus said "Fry the frickers."

Rope isn't that expensive, and tree's are free.
Heck the hippy liberals would love it because we could recycle that rope multiple times and have a green death penalty.

In order to teach what is right, you have to do what is right. If killing is wrong then the death sentence is wrong too.

#5 is your only legitimate gripe

Wrong.
1) commute sentences to life for all persons on death row convicted without any actual physical evidence, or without a non-coerced confession, or without the testimony of at least three (3) eyewitnesses (or unambiguous video evidence);
2) anyone else, or anyone convicted based on DNA evidence, is put to front of the line and given one appeal to be taken within 2 years of conviction;
3) executions can (and should) be public, using any means that was legal in the USA or England in 1791, and any method less "cruel AND unusual."

1 - have portable gallows; they're reusable
2 - nope; to take a life, you forfeit your's
3 - yes it is; no person that has been executed in the U.S. have committed anymore crimes.
4 - no; it's "victims" are criminals
5 - provide proof

I'll add one, and I say this as someone who has had a family member murdered and the killer was executed. For me and my family, it didn't give us any closure or sense of justice. Our family member was still just as dead and just as gone. We thought there would be this huge relief once the killer was executed, but it actually made some of us feel worse.

The only problem with the death penalty is it takes too long to administer. Convicts sit in prison for years if not decades on taxpayer dime before justice is fully served.
