It was a true option play. Jennings pitched to Fournette where he was met in the backfield by a swarming Wisconsin defense. Really can't put that as a bad play for Fournette.

He's young though and could break out at any moment as the clear #1. I'm just saying we don't have the Jeremy Hill-type running game yet.

I think Fournette will break out soon. And I think that Fournette will be getting the most carries out of any of the backs. Right now, he has yet to lead the team in carries for a game. In fact, he only had 3 carries until about the 7:00 mark of the ULM game.

Do people really think the gameplan for ULM carries over to what the game plan will be for Miss State? Cams smart enough to know if the strength of a defense is the front seven and the weakness is the db, then you spread them out to win. I'm not saying they pass the ball all over the field but I do think they will be operating out of many more spread the field formations like 3 and 4 wide sets and try to run to the outside and edge more then right up the gut. They have been working on screen passes, hb passes, and play action which are things you do to beat a good front seven. And they have been working on getting runners towards the edges.

Everybody thinks that since they mainly used one wr sets and ran it right at ulm that we will do that against state. I believe the ulm game plan was to keep things simple, toughen up the oline, and not put much on film for state to look at.

I think the coaches are better then that. I'd be shocked if against state the majority of the plays were run from the one wr set, instead I think you will see much more of a Wisconsin game setup where they operate out of 3 wr sets.

Also picked saints to beat the falcons by 14 and also the browns. MSU will not be walk over game, but they re not the juggernaut that some are trying to make them out to be.

He is smart enough to be the winningest coach in LSU history.

Typical media fodder. But this
quote:

He gushed about how this was LSU's best secondary ever

is just not true...YET. Hard to beat PP7, Reid, Mo, and the Badger all on one squad. In hindsight

"but that State's front 7 was going to shut LSU's offense down"

This fabulous front 7 is giving up 385 yards per game to inferior competition.

I attended the MSU - South Alabama game on Saturday.

Game was close for a quarter and a half then USA's lack of depth (and I think failure of the offense to capitalize on two grand opportunities on the first two drives) caught up with them.

Once MSU essentially figured out their best offense was to drop back then let Prescott scramble they took control.

USA's receivers were open from the start of the game. Think I counted 9 dropped passes on the day that would have changed the outcome.

Just my .02. Know MSU will be up more for this week...but they didn't look to be on par with Wisconsin.

Yes, he is smart enough. But LSU did not do that until they were behind against Wisconsin. Yes, it was the first game with the combination of Jennings/WRs inexperience. But who is to say Les won't demand more Power-I into the teeth of the MSU defense? If so, how long they stick with the approach when it isn't working will be key.

This! Thank you.

Are we going to line up in power sets against state? Of course. But I'll guarantee you that we see a lot more running out of spread formations then we saw these last two weeks.

Well if LSU would actually be somewhat creative on offense ulm couldn't have stopped us. Even on running plays you can be creative and run from many different power formations like Arkansas did. If your going to use 2 TE sets you need to use pa off of it and hit your TEs every so often and that would open things up from that formation. LSU also hasn't used the middle of the field much and I hope it's bc we haven't had to but are really good at it so no need to practice that in games? Screens have to be worked on a lot and need to get other receivers involved. I like Diarse a lot and the misses by our WRs probably won't happen much. Idk why LSU has this vanilla offense??? It's like they aren't confident that we can be creative and move the ball?? It's really baffling to me bc we show otherwise almost everytime we need to. Also the pa has to be executed much better than it has been, stick the ball in there and pull it out, Jennings is always 2 foot from the darn RB? I just think our team is capable of much more and don't know why we don't use it??

Probably going to be a lot closer than most think but the edge for LSU is playing at home. That will ultimately decide it. MSU is a good team and definitely capable of knocking us off. It's a trap game this year.

I put this in another thread, but thought it fits here too.

re: Why Miss State matches up with LSU very well

If you look at this game objectively you will see this game will be a battle. To think we will dominate this team is crazy, but if we do dominate it will tell us a lot about the tigers.

This is Jennings first SEC start, Prescott is a better QB at this point. Our offensive line has not looked as advertised, especially against a competetive D line.
MSU has legitimate all sec players in Jones and Smith on DL and McKinney at LB. Furthermore, they have more speed on Defense than Wisconsin which will make outside runs difficult. Jennings and our WR have yet to establish short to medium passing offense.

Prescott will be able to scramble much better than any QB we have faced and could extend drives. Although I agree their WR are overmatched, prescott could scramble enough to create coverage breakdowns. We have looked better in the middle of our D lately, but I consider it still unproven based on competition.

If our D continues to play assignment football MSU will have a tough time. MSU is capable of big plays, which is what hurt us vs Wisconsin.

We are better special teams wise, and it's a night game in TS. Obviously, we have the advantage in this game and should win. We will lose if we don't protect the ball and give them easy scoring chances.

To think this game is a blowout is sunshine pumping at its best.

It is sandwiched in between Sam Houston State, UL Monroe and New Mexico State and is the first conference game of the season in front of a home crowd at night in the newly expanded stadium.

You clearly have absolutely no idea what the phrase "trap game" actually means.
