GIII to a G550 is quite the jump. Those are $30 mil planes and a stage 3 hush kit is only about a $2 mil retrofit. Course the III may only be worth about $1M right now anyways, but either way I'm jealous!

Work something out with them
They can advise you and give you several different options to achieve what it is you're trying to do.
We work with them on several different business ventures and are very open to making deals.
Remember, they arent in the equipment business, they are in the investing business.. They dont want all this inventory just sitting around.

Even if I were to become insanely wealthy, this is the one luxery I'd forego. Financial commitment aside, I'll take the safety record of the commericial air industry over that of private flights any day. I'll have to make due with Delta's shitty lounges and shitty first class for my perks.

It is pretty surreal though, the first time you drive up to one on the runway and hop out the car and on board and are wheels up in 10-15 minutes.
Yeah, it is. My wife's Mom was married to this guy for a short time. Back before they got married, we flew with him to Chicago for several days. His business owned it, and he used it to fly to these big conventions all over the place.
They sometimes flew up to Birmingham from south Alabama to visit. It was a really old plane, like late 80s model of something. It would seat 7 but we never had more than 5 people in it. The only downside was the weight restrictions. We couldn't fuel it all the way up and had to stop in Kentucky on the way up and way back to refuel. But driving to the little backside of the Birmingham airport, parking the car, and then being in the air 20 minutes later was great.
It was so small inside it felt like we were in a flying SUV. I think there's more room in my wife's Sienna than there was in that plane.

I know a few people that do. Mostly smaller planes.
My dad had a Cessna 150 in Alaska, and a 152 then 182 down south.
Unfortunately they all got sold off because he has medical issues that won't allow him to clear the physical anymore.

FIL has three jets. Citation VI, VII, and X. Maintenance, pilot salaries, insurance, etc... rack up pretty quickly.

On that it wouldn't surprise me if he was over $1M/year easy

Have flown on a major oil company's plane (hawker 800) on a trip that was part business and part fishing. Recently had a client fly me to a work site on the coast in helicopter, saw that they pay $25/min for those flights. I hear the maintenance and paperwork often takes all the fun out if it, then again, crashing probably not too fun either if plane not maintained properly.

awesome. So any tips about how to get/shop for insurance? Any tips on how to structure the company so you're more insurable?
form a LLC, if in SELA the cheapest work and fuel is in Hammond. But there are even cheaper options in Texas.
Yearly annual and overhaul every 2000 hours.
would have to have the plane values and then set as the asset of a corporatrion.
Name owners as managing members or partners with equal ownership (or with ownership set how the primary sees fit)
Would need to figure out hourly fees based on economy and wear of airframe (Piper Archer and Cessna cost very little to keep up, a Mooney or a Beechcraft cost a lot more)

i have a couple friends who own planes. One has small single engine, other has 2 private jets. he is only 33yrs old, his dad owns a lumber businees and basically gave him the company. Always posting pics flying over miami and stuff. They live here in mississippi. Family was good friends with favre and it was nothing for them to hop on a plane and fly up to lambeau field and watch him play and fly back in for work next day.

The company I use to work for had a few. Sales bonuses included use of the jets!
I own part of a business with family members where the business buys time on a flex jet card (just like Marquis Jet). It's a very small light jet (6 seater) and I have never been on it.
Before I bought into the business they owned 1/4 share in a Beechcraft turboprop but it was cheaper to go with the jet card.

Flown on quite a few, mainly supercubs, Aviat Huskys, 150s, 172, 206, DHC-2 and DHC-3. I owned a 172 that I bought for less than $25k and was in an a 206 with 4 other guys for a couple of years, but those are expensive to maintain.
There was a Russian guy here last week with a 300 million dollar yacht and a 158 million Boeing business class private jet. Basically a 737.
