I had whooping cough last year

All I had was a violent cough that would sometimes make me vomit. Nothing gets rid of it. I had it three months

Had that crud two years ago. Started in mid June and lasted until the end of Sept. Did basically like you, treated myself for a while (sinus stuff, Mucinex) and finally the doctor three times (Z-pack). Anyway, it would almost go away (dry ish cough) every couple weeks and seemingly start right back up. I was diagnosed with something different each time. Walking pneumonia, bronchitis, strep throat. The doctor couldn't seem to figure out exactly what I had. He did give me an inhaler and a few breathing treatments. All I can say is good luck. It was an aggravating 4 mos.

Suffered from sinus issues for years. Those led to major chest issues and finally pneumonia. Had sinus surgery to correct deviated septum along with clearing "windows" in my sinus cavities . had bad allergies every spring/summer.

Better now however the last bout of allergies attacking me liked to kill me. Literally. Cough, cough, cough. Lack of breath. Congestion and the like. Went to a different doc, had two courses of prednisone to knock it out. Turns out I am more asthmatic than I originally thought. On a symbacort inhaler and that has worked wonders. Also going through allergy testing to dial in what plagues me so I can take shots.

Things change over time, you may be developing asthma and not know it. Like others said, get the chest X-ray see what it shows. Good luck.

This. Exactly what I have and have done.

In addition to finishing Z-Pack, I'm also taking Benzonatate Cap 200 MG, which was substituted for Tessalon. I take it 3 times a day. I assume it is providing me some relief, but not enough to make a considerable difference in my daily activities.

I took the tessalon pearls, two z packs, an inhaler, prednisone and I don't remember what else. Nothing helps

My wife, is upset with me, because I haven't gone back since, mainly because of my travel / work schedule and partly because I am stubborn.

As she should be. This is terrible reasoning. You don't go the doctor for something serious like this for you. You go for your family. They need you around and healthy.

You're right. No defense. I will make this a priority once I get back in town.

This happened to me...a few years back and for a couple of years in a row. I believe I had a chronic cough for at least 2 - 3 months at one point. Tests were all negative. The final diagnosis...viral infection of some type. It basically had to run its course...and eventually did.

From a different perspective, consider giving this a shot

Natural Factors Sinus Lung Bronchial Health

This has really helped me in the past with lingering chest congestion. I'm generally opposed to antibiotics for sinus and bronchial issues, considering the potential harm antibiotics can do if you really don't need them. So many doctors just seem to feel pressure to give antibiotics to every third patient.

Assume since you travel a lot for business, travel is via plane and you are having to stay in hotels. Airplane and hotel/motel = perfect environment for one to catch a cold. We traveled by plane and stayed in hotels twice a year for 30 years and for each trip except maybe 4, I either came home with a cold or one started within a day or two of return. Hope you are ok.

I am hopeful that it isn't anything more than a persistent cough.

I hope so to. My MIL started out with a cough and it turned out to be ALS. How is your voice? No loss or change in that at all?
