I was planning on getting a green egg yesterday until people starting saying the XL was better.

what are the advantages and disadvantages to both.

XL - Made in America
Green Egg - Made in Mexico

I've got an egg, don't have experience with the other but the egg is as advertised, I love it(I can see this getting moved over to another board)

Im in the process of finding the best combo for grilling smoking. getting a Kamato and something like a smokey mountain or go the 2 in one cheap route.

From my understanding, they are pretty much the same. The shape/size of the primo gives it a larger surface area. They are both high quality ceramic kamodo grills.

I've got an egg and love it. Very well made, lots of accessories available. Buddy of mine has a Primo and it seems to be of similar quality.

Food and drink board would give you good answers. Or maybe the outdoor board

Primo XL is a great Kamado. Plus the XL is oval, larger cooking surface…can cook in direct/direct at the same time.

I would even say my Kamado Joe is cheaper in price and better made Kamado then the BGE.

If you want answers, go to Kamado Guru website LINK read up on some threads. By far, the Primo gets the most buzz.

Primo oval XL is highly regarded because its oval so you indirect and direct cook at the same time.

A guy at a dealer told me primo was harder to deal with on warranty issues. He sold eggs and primo but I don't know if that is true.

If your going to go round kamado then I would look at a kamado joe with there new divide and conquer system. You get a lot with this setup that is included. Being able to use a half diffuser and different height grill grates could be real useful. To get something similar on an egg you have spend a lot more money but it's included with kamado joe.

Team BGE here. It's big enough for my needs, does what I need it to do and does it very well.

My neighbor has a 15 yr old bge and it's still rolling like day 1

Kamado Joe is just the better grill on the market right now.

I have a 10 year old Primo Jr and the top vent is not nearly as sophisticated as the current Green Eggs'. I am constantly adjusting the top and bottom vents, so I'd look at those contraptions to determine quality. The oval shape of the Primo and firebox separator is a significant advantage over any other competitor.

Primo XL is more versatile due to its shape and size, IMO.

I actually shattered my grill during a move. Primo sent me a new one, no questions asked. Needless to say, I have nothing but stellar things to say about their warranty.

The ability to simultaneously direct and indirect cook on it is outstanding. If I were to buy a traditional round shaped kamado, it would be a Grill Dome. They have all stainless hardware and thicker ceramic than the competition.
