Yeah my bad, I was thinking of the MLS stadium they want to build downtown.
I still don't know that we'd have a ton of local fan support but it'll be an interesting experiment to see what entertainment options people choose.

They wouldn't need a ton of local fan support, just a nice core dedicated fan base and the rest will be filled with tourists wanting to catch a hockey game while in town and fans of other teams.
I think it would go over quite well overall from an attendance/attraction standpoint.
Bettman is finally doing something right.

While i absolutely think Toronto could support another NHL franchise, i dont know if its a good move. I think there are markets out there that could absolutely support the NHL. Also, while Las Vegas is an untapped market for pro sports, the NHL should have been last on that list. It could end up being worse then Phoenix and Florida in terms of support. Really bad move there. Quebec and Seattle are slam dunks no brainers. The league did well there. Overall i say a C grade. I think the league should have considered the following markets for expansion over Toronto and Vegas:
Portland
Utah
Saskatchewan/Regina
Omaha
Boise
Green Bay...yup you read these last two right!

A hockey team in Seattle would be amazing.

I think Vegas will do well, but we'll see.

This sounds like a disaster. There's already too many guys in the league that shouldn't be. The NHL doesn't need expansion, just relocation.

The Vegas one is kinda meh, but I like the other 3. Excited about the Seattle team.

Less teams in the South, more in the North and Canada. This Vegas experiment will fail. Nobody in Vegas plays or knows anything about Hockey. This has Phoenix and Florida written all over it.

Seattle is a fantastic choice for a US hockey city.

Seattle - 3.4 Million
Quebec - 765k
The NHL should have considered these cities over Vegas and Toronto IMO:
Portland - 2.3 Million
Salt Lake/Utah - 1.14 Million
Regina/Saskatchewan - 1.1 Million
Omaha - 895K
Boise - 650k
The best thing about these markets is that they arent tapped out. There would be plenty of support to go around for a team in these cities. I think sometimes, cities can be over represented in pro sports. I think we need more cities with only 1-2 franchises. 4-5 franchises in one city, regardless of size, doesnt always guarantee success.

The NBA is idiotic for letting the NHL get the jump on the Seattle and Vegas markets. Just idiotic.
Those are both basketball cities who will now likely be turned into hockey cities. And if you've never lived in a city with both NHL and NBA teams, there is a palpable difference between the two. Not as many overlap as fans of both teams as you might think.

If there was a franchise I wouldn't want to own it's the Vegas one. Not only fan support, but that town can turn into a ghost town in any given decade. It's a mirage of a "city." I went there in 2012 and you could see how badly overbuilt they were from the recession. Look at Atlantic City. While Vegas has a better pedigree, it doesn't take much to topple over a city like it.

Dammit come on. Give one to Houston

If my expansion team from NHL14 is in any indication, the Seattle Shockers will be a force to be reckoned with.

4 expansion teams? They need two to even up the divisions, but they probably should add 2 teams and move 2 (Phoenix and Miami). Those two just don't seem like viable markets, even after all of this time.
Toronto has needed two teams for a long time, and giving Quebec a team back rights a historic wrong. Bring back the Nordiques!
Seattle and Vegas are also great calls on expansion, and beats the NBA to the punch. Looking forward to the future Seattle-Vancouver rivalry.

Vegas is anything but overbuilt, if anything it's a little underbilt in the city (meaning the place outside of The Strip and Downtown where the 2 million people, including myself, live.) There aren't many empty homes or apartments unless they're in foreclosure. Inventory is low and the city is starting to build again. The Fountainbleau that's been half built for five years is the only real failure in the tourist areas, and I imagine that will either get torn down or completed within the next few years.
I do agree on the ghost town thing, it's a single industry city, but that is changing. Las Vegas is a big city to not have a pro franchise of some sort, and I think the city will really get behind a hockey franchise, much like San Jose, but with casinos and resort money instead of high tech money.
