Random tip for anyone looking for a suit

I had a pretty bad week with my suits. 2 of them were damaged in the same week, one of which is probably unrecoverable. frickkkk.
As a replacement, I have been researching something in the $500 range. Knowing the quality you can get from Suit Supply in that price range, I had planned on going that route. I mean, hell, they're just down the street from me.
But searching some of the usual suspects (dappered, style forum, reddit, etc), I stumbled upon nothing but glowing reviews for a brand I had never heard of: Benjamin. They have a Sartorial line that is a modern fit, along the same line as the Brooks Brothers Fitzgerald. Slim, but not super slim. Reasonable lapels. Flat front pants.
The thing that set it apart was the fact that it's a full canvas suit, which normally run over $1000. Most of the suits in this price range are fused, which is the worst of the available options (fused, half canvas, full canvas), or half canvas. Suit Supply is half canvas, I believe. Full canvas suits should drape better on your body and be longer lasting. They'll hold up better to dry cleaning and just general wear.
So for $525 plus shipping you can get a well reviewed, full canvas, Super 140s, modern fitting suit. The ONLY thing that may bother some is that they are made in China. But tons of suits are made in China (like suit supply I think). But be your own judge. The abundance of quality reviews ultimately won me over, along with the full canvas.
Hope this helps someone. Seems like a great deal for what you're getting. I bought my suit from ehaberdasher. I have no stake in the game, just trying to help a brotha' out.

Thanks. I have a couple of made to measure that are a few years old. However, I've recently lost a good deal of weight and they just don't fit right anymore (despite some tailoring). I've recently bought a couple of suitsupply suits and have been pleased, but I will check these out too.

Since you're in the area, Mo, it's even better. ehaberdasher ships from NJ. I ordered late Tuesday night and the suit was here by Thursday. About to take it to the tailor right now.

Used to have a number of made to order suits....they were great really enjoyed wearing them....you normally get what you pay for
......got out of the sales/management career and got into radio doing fishing/outdoor shows
If I died tomorrow they would have to buy me a suit......or just bury me in my Simms/Columbia shirts & shorts!!! Own one sport coat, two pairs of dress slacks & a pair each of black and brown shoes.....LOL Dont even get me started on neck chokers, meant ties....the most inhumane thing ever foisted on MAN!!!

Thanks I looked up some previous posts and pulled the trigger on a hickey freeman this week. Headed to the tailor next week to get it all fitted.
FYI I am not in a profession that requires a suit so I'm not dropping $500+ on a suit.

Looks interesting. Any comments on the quality/details?

I have two from suit supply s110 and they are awesome and fantastic fabric. I think they are made in India but they have fantastic tailors. I would be worried about going too high on the thread count for a daily suit, but to each their own.

Wish I had seen this a couple weeks ago. Bought a Ralph Lauren though for around 800 and I need to get it tailored. First person I brought it to insisted on leaving it bigger than I wanted ( older person). Anyone know a good one around Alexandria?

My go to is getting a cheap suit from Burlington, then going to a tailor and having it cut up an put back together. That way for like $25-300 I have a badass suit.

Guarantee you could get the same suit already tailored to steinmart for half the price

Might could, we don't have one here anymore so not sure. I looked everywhere and this was my favorite for the price. We don't have many options and for less they all seemed cheap. Coat just a little baggier than I prefer it to fit through the middle.

Not ordering any suit using e-commerce. Have to see and touch the fabric. Tailored is the way to go.
