Got a buddy that lives on a boat in the San Blas Islands. Seems like a relaxing lifestyle down there.

I have been to 40+ countries, Panama is what I always recommend to people who want to stay on this side of the Atlantic. It really is a hidden gem. There are not as many guide books out on it, so not as many people go.
It is relatively cheap, that first pic posted looks like San blas. You need to spend a night on one of those islands. The coke boats run through there on their way north.

I've been to Panama. If I didn't have any obligations, I would go. Try it and if you don't like it come back. Why not? There is a very large wonderful world out there.

Panama sucks, especially the carribean side. Seems like a waste of time to go down there and work in the tourism industry as a guide. If you want adventure and don't need money, go try it out. You will get tired of it and leave within a year, though. I've seen this play out over and over again with people moving to panama.

I worked for a guy who visited Panama every year on vacation. After retirement he would visit and stay for months at a time. He and his family also started to welcome exchange students to their home here in between those visits.

I've listened to the Van Halen song before. It was pretty good at first, but got old quickly. Not sure if that helps you.

FYI, the large numbers of foreigners, especially retirees, migrating to this country over the past decade has resulted in a backlog at the Department of Immigration, which causes months of delays getting your visa processed and approved.

A new visa option created by Executive Decree in 2012, offers a shortcut. This “Friends of Panama” visa, as it’s referred to, can be processed in weeks instead of months and can even result in a work permit.

Good weed, hot broads, cold beer, nice beaches, low cost of living.

Sounds like a real shite hole.

Been twice and have been from the Costa Rica border to Panama City. Beautiful country with the exception of Colon. I would move there in a heartbeat.

Everything was cheap.

What makes it suck, exactly?

I'd be doing it for shits and giggles, really. Not trying to move there permanently.

This statement is true (or at least it was 25 years ago).

I lived down there in 1988, in downtown PC for three months. It was a near third world country but it did have a dictator and the police was controlled by the military. Granted, the Pacific side is only 40 miles from the Atlantic side. PC did have some great nightclubs.

I'd be doing the same thing I'm doing now...mostly agricultural work. Some eco-tourism guiding, and maybe some work on sailboat crews.

Please take me with you.
