remember how Roby would occasionally rip off a nice return on a kickoff in '09?

he had an important return against the Vikings in the NFC Championship that help set the O up for a TD.

Cadet can do the job maybe. He helped out big time against the 49ers last year with that one return. That game came right down to the wire anyway.

our punt return team hasn't had a whole lot to celebrate since the Reggie Bush days. I mean Sproles had that one punt return against the Packers in 2011 but not many other returns that really made an impact.

special teams can really help swing the momentum of a game much like a turnover from the defense.

Got to have it in my opinion.

I believe that ST is a bigger part of the pie in the postseason as compared to the regular season.

Since it's mainly goong to be the newer younger players doing most of the work, I want to see how those new players we've been reading so much about look. But in game 3 I wanfacets of the game in total control. Much like 2009.

-linebacker play (not over-pursuing, properly setting the edge)

-regular turnovers

-effective running

I see you conveniently did not mention the 10-7 dud against the Fins in the 4th preseason game. After that atrocious game I thought we were doomed. Just weren't ourselves that night. We sucked. Luckily we turned it around the following week.

Honestly, I don't even know if I had any optimism going into 2009. I still thought we were cursed thanks to Reggie Bush and his idiotic taunt in the 2006 NFC championship. IIRC, that was the fuel that sparked the Bear's comeback and missing the playoffs the two following seasons.

On paper, it looks like the best team we have fielded. So i want to see it with my own two eyes. 2009, like mentioned, it was the Raiders game that I knew that team was going to be special.

This year, I have that feeling again. So, i am ready for preseason to start.

What I want to see:
- Better pass/run ratio (less predictability and improved play action pass)
- WR changeover (I can't wait to see how Brandin Cooks impacts the game and who our 5-6 receivers will be)
- Vacarro and Byrd together on the field at the same time (It just feels like greatness in the making)
- Position battles (who is going to emerge out of nowhere to make the team)
- Improvement for the LB corps and Special Teams unit
- What will Jimmy do instead of dunking

I agree somewhat.

until I see a new kicker come in and start consistently making FG's though I guess I'll be a little skeptic.

it shouldn't have to be so nerve racking when we line up for a FG like last year. Hartley just lost his confidence I guess.

how many games do we see coming down to the wire these days in the NFL? It feels like it happens a lot more. I just don't want it to be because of a kicker.

OL consistency in running on early downs to prevent 3rd and 5+

OL consistency in passing downs in case we fail at the above

no starters play in the 4th game

game 3 is the dress rehearsal.

I did try and find meaning that our 4th preseason game last year was against Miami

Offense:
Consistent OL
Consistent balance on Run and Pass

Defense:
Constant QB Pressure from every angle
Produce more turnovers

you can miss a kick in a regular season game and it may or may not be the difference

you start missing kicks in the postseason and you're fricked.

The games will be close more often than not in the preseason...you're not blowing anyone away.

Look at the seattle game last year (playoffs) we can't make a kick and seattle's cooled off offense is now just a couple of dinks away from points...that and their returns

Pretty much mirror your wants, minus the italics and biggest want in bold...

Not having an honest run game last year made the play action virtually meaningless. Brees could have turned to the running back, high fived him, and then chucked the ball down-field 25 yards to Stills and the effect would have been the same.

As far as the LB play I can't help but always watch the LBs when the defense is out. But this year I might be a bit more distracted trying to watch the secondary off-screen.

I have high hopes that the LBs play better than last year, but I have my doubts. It's definitely our Achilles heel on the defensive side of the ball.

Create some turnovers and pound the ball and I will have the beginnings of moisture down amongst my privates.

I'm impressed that you can remember anything specific about a preseason, especially as far as one 7 years ago.
