I have a husky. Moving up north helped, but while I was in BR a lot of people used to be terrified of him (probably had not seen one before). It's ironic because they make horrible guard dogs since they are so friendly. Walking him near Gardere I would get a lot of "ooooh you got one of dem snow dogs" and children calling him a wolf and coyote.

I still get some people who look worried when they see him, but that's mainly because Akitas are popular here and they tend to be mean dogs. It's also a lot more children that get scared at first

What are some of y'all's stories?

Edit: and after the several comments about huskies suffering in the southern heat I will add that to the list

My boxer doesn't like the heat or rain. He likes it inside. He will hold his pee if it's raining.

We have a Doberman and a Pug....Pug will go after you if you look at him wrong. Doberman will shite himself if he sees a fly!
But I won't lie, the Doberman does look like a killer.

My golden is not friendly and doesn't like water. He also doesn't really play with toys.

He loves people really intensely though once he trusts them. He was abused until we got him at about age 4, so he's got a pass for being kinda fricked up

I have an Amstaff. He's great with my kids and my friends. However, strangers are a crap shoot and he is very animal aggressive.

ETA: I can't really say people have misconceptions about the breed. Their reputation is pretty bad, and I can't speak for other owners.

I have a black lab. People just assume he's lazy, has way too many puppies, and voted for Obama. It's ridiculous.

Maybe they think you're an idiot for walking a husky in the Louisiana heat?

We have a Lhasa Apso. He looks cute and fluffy, but he's an a-hole.

I have a basset who will be lazy if nothing is going on but who is quite active when outdoors. He can also ornery around strangers and has a hatred for moving cars.

I have a cocker spaniel and people always say how mean they normally are...couldn't be further from the truth. At least not for my boy.

Had a cocker spaniel for 14 years. Smartest dog we ever owned. A wonderful family pet, loved our kids and grandparents. However, had to make him an inside dog because he hated strangers and would bite. The vet once told us he had to muzzle more cockers in order to treat than any other breed.
