Police officers arrived at the scene. When they ran Kyle’s license, Mooney wrote, something unusual occurred: “Instead of his name, address, and date of birth, what came up was a phone number at the Department of Defense. At the other end of the line was someone who explained that the police were in the presence of one of the most skilled fighters in U.S. military history.”

holy shite. Someone please link.

Kyle had a knack for finding trouble in bars. Fighting, he wrote, was “a fact of life when you’re a SEAL.” Once, he was arrested after he and a friend “beat the shite out of” several “wannabe U.F.C. fighters.” He broke his hand during a brawl in a bar near Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Cops arrested him after he decked a man in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, for slapping a woman. Kyle chalked up these incidents to having “pent-up aggression.” He added, “I would rather get my arse beat than look like a pussy in front of my boys.”

He sounds like a giant douche.

that's funny. The two SEALs i know are the most unassuming people ever, and would never get into a bar fight, unless it was absolutely unavoidable.

has the Navy ever confirmed this clown was actually a SEAL?

I don't know, but it sure makes you wonder about all of the numbers of kills he boast about in his book.

keep in mind he likely suffered from PTSD. The New Yorker article linked is pretty illuminating. Depressing, too.

IIRC, Jesse has gotten in trouble with that community before by misrepresenting his experiences, mainly in that he claims he was a SEAL instead of a member of the Underwater Demolitions Team. All SEALs came from the UDT, but not all of the UDT were SEALs.

According to retired Senior Chief Don Shipley a 23 year veteran of the SEAL teams, and phony SEAL exposer, JV along with his brother Jon and anyone else from that era assigned to UDT after BUDs is entitled to refer to themselves as a SEAL.

Well I guess so. He'd have to be an absolute psychopath to kill that many people in that manner and not be traumatized.

I appreciate that snipers have tremendous value on the battlefield and that American ones save American lives, but it's not like they are some great humanitarians. It takes a different individual to stare at someone in cold-blood from hundreds of yards away and put a bullet through their head. Much less 160+ times.

As far as the bar fight stuff you hear supposed SF guys tell. Let me say this from actual first hand knowledge, a personal friend was a member of a SMU and got arrested after a typical drunken altercation off base. Spent a few hours in the drunk tank and was sent home. Called into the First Sgts. office the next morning and was told to pack his shite and look for a new assignment. Those commands don't put up with a lot of shenanigans when guys are literally climbing over each other to get in. l

I don't think the carjacking story was in Kyle's' book ,but in the book of a friend (Marcus Luttrell?) & supposedly confirmed by Kyle in a later interview.

Not as familiar with the Katrina story although I think it is a magazine/paper interview?
