See, I applaud the Troubs for their openness. They play to their fanbase.

Boston, until I found out they were actively anti-hunting. But I still love their music. Yes, I'm old....you kids get out of my yard!

Great bands usually have terrible political stances. If you let that bother you, might as well not listen to music or watch tv for that matter.

Counting Crows was mentioned. Their live show is terrible. I want to hear the music. Duritz has always broke songs into poems and spoken word type performances. SING THE DAMN SONG.
my personal GOAT is Pearl Jam. And I agree that Vedder makes me cringe. I watched their Dallas show this past November. He knows where to pic his spots. No Bush bashing. And when they did Jeremy there was no gun bashing. Just a nod to the region and reminder that it was a nearby shooting (Richardson TX) that he wrote the song about. No real rant. Just let's try to make things safer. And left it at that.

morrisey cant ruin my love for the smiths
i used to love pearl jam and green day before they became all intertwined with politics and the latter just started to suck in general

You must be the sensitive type. If I like someones music, I don't care what they are like IRL. By the same token, there are some really cool artists that I would hang out with but their music sucks.

I certainly don't care if their politics match up with mine.
This. If this was the case Id listen to no one.

No shite. Most artistic people are liberal. If Vedder goes off on a rant I don't care for at a show, it is called a piss or beer break.
As we get older we become more conservative. Especially here. But does that mean I am not patriotic if I don't find a Ted Nugent box set and listen to it on repeat? Oh the horror.

Honestly, I used to find the strait edge movement in hardcore a little annoying but it didn't really stop my love for the music..

Yeah, cuz abstinence from alcohol, nicotine, and illegal drugs, is a total turn off.

This was my genre from high school/ college. When I was at LSU 86-91 no band was bigger that REM. He did get a little too artsy/political for my liking but it never soured me on the music.

Add Iceage to the list for me. One of my favorite punk bands of the last decade, but apparently there is a lot of evidence that they are racists, and have a lot of neo-nazi shite at their shows. Normally I can look past political leanings (Morrissey), or life mistakes (Surfer Blood's singer being arrested for physical abuse), but this is too much for me.

Surprised no one's said RATM. I can't say I ever loved them but I did like that first album. They are just way too radical for me though. Tom Morello's never getting a dime from me. Same thing with SOAD. Vedder and Chris Cornell are pretty bad too but at least they know when to shut up.
