I haven't eaten at Mother's in years, but I never thought it was awful. It was good enough to wait in a long line and there were some rudeness issues. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone because there are better places without the lines. When my parents go to Nola, my Dad walks in the mornings and always picks up biscuits there to bring back to my Mom.
Mother's comes up in all kinds of New Orleans restaurant and trip searches. I've had several people from other states tell me that when they send me a list of restaurants they're thinking of trying. I usually have to totally redo the lists. A tourist doesn't know any better and, as has been said, it's an institution, so it's famous. As long as the food is at least good, tourists will be very happy. It's not like they can get anything like it where they live, usually.
I've only eaten at Joey K's one time about a year ago. A local took me there for lunch. I had an excellent oyster poboy. Oysters were perfectly fried, crispy, not overcooked, plentiful, bread was Leidenheimer's, I believe, or just like it, if not. It was dressed with fresh ingredients. I don't know what's not to like about that, but it sure gets hate on here. I don't know what the other food is like because I didn't have it. I go back there for the oyster poboy, though.

We need more FDB regs this year. Nothing wrong with last year but a lot don't post here often.

i know drew organized it so i'm not gonna boot him unless he really doesn't want to do it. but as far as broduer and dean...unless they weigh in soon, this ball needs to get rolling.

Try Wakin Bakin or Tartine.

I'm tempted to act like Cafe Beignet is terrible to keep people out of the place, but it's really good.
