If Shiner is your thing, try Parish Canebrake.

This

Went there last weekend and it was a great experience. All the NOLA beers on tap plus some ones you can't find anywhere else.

Well that was quick. I've been hanging around the FBD thread for a few years now and haven't received a maven card.

I was there last Friday and it was a decent time. The "tour" itself is the weakest tour I've ever been on. But you can't really complain when all their beers are free for an hour.

However, I'm not ready to annoint NOLA as great or even much better (if at all better) than Abita. The Hurricane Saison had to be the worst Saison I've ever tasted, and their ICS was just decent. Maybe I'm spoiled after living in Ohio and Virginia since we have access to some really great brews. But I put NOLA in the same category as Abita.

Tour is the worst time to go there IMO (I've never been)

I know they want to be better than Abita, but damn. To say a 5 year old brewey is in the same category as one of the top 20 producing craft breweries in the country, that's pretty good.

You must drink a lot of great beers.

I get the Abita hate on here. For being around as long as they have, they really should be producing beers that blow you away. I haven't had any of their selects, so I don't know if they have any that do. I do enjoy several of their beers, however.

And I also agree that NOLA is doing pretty good so far. They have shown they are willing to try different things, and that's a plus.

I'm no maven, and I never said I was. But my go-to saisons are Sorachi Ace, Hennepin, Sofie, and Saison Rue. That's why I also said I might be spoiled.

My point is if you have access to great beers, NOLA may not do it for you. If you don't have access to great beers or are just branching out, NOLA and Abita will both be fine for you.

I still need to get over there and try the new saison recipe. I had an early version back in the winter and remember it being decent and an improvement over there last saison recipe. Maybe I'll go tomorrow to try and win that Hopitoulas bike.

I think the fact that they have been around so long is part of the problem. Back when they first released their flagship beers they were pretty cutting edge for the time.

When did you try the Hurricane Saison? IM no maven so I base what a good saison is off the resident FBDer's palate with the saison addiction.

And yes we don't have a very large craft beer culture down here. I'm actually worried that some of these breweries opening up won't get the support they need. Not many experienced palates down here, beers that blow people away won't pay the bills here yet.

I had it last Friday in the tap room. It just didn't do it for me. It's not that it was bad, it just didn't measure up to the saisons I normally drink.

I hope they do get the support, and I'll continue to support/visit local breweries when I do visit New Orleans.

That bike is mine!

It's actually an ugly bike, but I'd still rock it. I need a cruiser to round out my bike stable.

I just sold off my entire bike stable. but I did it to upgrade to 1 top of the line road beater. So I don't feel too bad about it.

Is today the event at the tap room?

I think I read something about it earlier in the week.

Tomorrow. One ticket per regular beer, and then two tickets per ALS Farmhouse IPA.
