I use Stihl .080 round line no matter the brand. Seems to last nearly as long as the thicker stuff, can pack a bit more on the spool, and it seems to let the head spin a bit faster though I've haven't tried using a tach with a fresh spool of each string to verify. Never use that gimmick string as all it seems to do is jam in the trimmer head.

.080 cuts much better IMO. I hate the fat line.

I re strung my Husqvarna other day and as soon as I turned it on and it cut for like 5 seconds my line disappeared back in spool. Sad thing is I've had it for about 7 years and still haven't figured it out. I mean I had prob 3-4 inches on both sides hanging out and hit some grass one good time and bam, gone. Wrap both strings tightly at the same time and make sure to keep them curling in like they came out of the package when you do. Then, clip them into the little cutouts, and put it back on. Pull the strings out at the same time once you get it all together. That'll tighten it up a little bit and get the spool facing correctly so it'll come out right. Most people don't know to do that and it causes the most problems.
Start

Do not use string bigger than .095" or you will wear out your engine with the quickness. Less powerful engines require smaller string. I find that stepping up in size makes a considerable difference though, and I run 0.095" every day.

I use .80 line. Some years I string it right but this last time was just me being retarded. I only restring it maybe once a year if that, and forget everytime.

The trick when rewinding is how you cut the new new line from the spool.
Cut it with a razor on a flat surface. Use this as the feed part that goes in the hole.
Of course get two pieces the same length so when you start spooling, they are even.
If you cut the line with wire cutters it will crush the line and not allow it to go in the starter hole correctly.

Don't want to be a dick, but I cut mine with wire cutters always. The holes are always gonna be bigger than the line.
I also spool one long string in a loop instead of cutting two separate pieces

Echo
I pull one string out as far as I can stretch my arms.
It goes in the hole and out the other side of the wead eater head. I make both sides equal. I spin the weed eater head till it is all wound up.
Can't be any easier. I edge my corner house and sidewalks with my Echo wead eater more than the Echo edger

I only ran into that problem when up next to my fence. But my old 2-cycle finally died a couple years ago, and I got a 4-cycle to replace it. First thing I did was install the metal bladed gator equivalent. 2 years later and I'm still on the same 3 original blades. They're a little worn on the ends, but still cut weeds, monkey grass, and small limbs/twigs great.

Oregon Gator Line is the only answer. We have miles (literally)of chain link fence to weed eat at the rec park. It's the only one I've found to last as well as perform

I purchased a 10 amp electric power head a couple of years ago. As much as I hate dealing with the extension cord, gas trimmers never hold up (well, the commercial Stihl that was stolen from my garage held up

I use .080 on my Cub Cadet weedeater. Works great. Every weedeater I've ever had, though, has the one same fault. None of em are fast enough to keep all the yellowjackets from gettin past that cuttin head.

I've used a Shindaiwa with a Stihl head for 15+ years and have never had a problem spooling the line. It's been a very good weedeater. I've used it clearing deer stand lines with a round blade with a chain saw chain. It just keeps on ticking.

Must be the cutters I was using. Always had problems, but it worked much better with the razor knife.
The head on mine is a dual feed, so it takes two lines.
