“If we play Houston in the second game, they have seven left-handed hitters, so I don’t know if I want to put Aaron up against that,” Mainieri said

I'm still of the opinion to start Bouman vs SLU, Nola in game 2 and Poche to seal the deal!

Edited to Update: Mainieri starting Poche vs SLU
Poche to start

I'm left-handed. Do you think Nola could get me out?

SLU has a legit ace though don't they? Don't want to take anything for granted in the first game. Unfortunately you didn't draw a SWAC team as the 4 seed.

While I would hate it I do think Poche would beat Houston's ace.

The only move I would have a problem with is starting Bouman. That's just being stupid and asking for trouble. Nola and Poche are clearly #1 and #2, they have the most experience starting this year. Let them get the first 2 wins while going deep into both games to keep the bullpen rested for Sunday. Plus, if we start Bouman on tomorrow, then we are in a situation where we may have to start him Friday next week too since he'd be the only one with a full week of rest.

I have full confidence in Poche, so I don't care if we start him against SLU or saturday against (probably) Houston.

Where did it say he was leaning nola? I read the article with that quote in it. It stated he was still deciding between them.

Matchups are for dating websites. Pitch Poche or Bouman and let's start the post season already.

The correct answer is wait and see. I still think you throw your 3rd guy at SLU or go 3-2-1-1-1-1. Then follow up with Nola and save Pouche for the the title game.

LSU every year burns a top 2 starter in a regional and routes Johnny SWAC by 15 runs.

PM may have a point. Their top 4 hitters are all lefthanded, and the next 2 are switch hitters. So hypothetically Nola could face 6+ lefties in the lineup. I know that he is a great pitcher, but what I'd like to know is the switch hitter RH/LH splits, as well as a Poche's BA against vs LH. If he totally dominates LH, then it may be the right move.

On the other hand, HOU could not even win. Both teams look to have solid ace's.

Did LSU have the choice to play the early game? Maybe they should have waited and played the night game if that was an option.

We will beat SLU. Round two, in this set up, is absurdly important.

If not Poche in round1, I think Bouman would own SLU.

Didn't Mainieri say before the Auburn game that the reason he was pitching Poche on Thursday so he could pitch game 1 of the SEC and regionals?
