Im only seeing them at ground level. How can I keep them off my patio? How long do I have to worry about them? Where can I look for their source to eliminate it?

Stepped on one of those barefoot on my patio 2 days ago. Way worse than a bee or wasp sting!

I picked one of those up as a kid on accident. Still traumatized.

So that's the name of them. Just always knew them as stinging caterpillars.

I def don't miss those evil looking frickers.

They come from Oak trees. From my understanding once they are caterpillars there isn't much you can do. If you spray the tree before they come out in spring it will help prevent them.

Lived Uptown for years and always had an eye out when I was outside because they are always falling out of the Oak trees.

I had a "nest" of about 50 of them on one of my trees. Sprayed them with roach spray and that did the job. Now the past few days I've been seeing a dozen or so crawling on my stucco.

I've always been terrified one of those bastards falls out of a tree and lands in the collar of my shirt.

I was climbing a tree as a kid and didn't have a shirt on and rubbed my ribcage against one. Terrible.

Get yourself a red ryder B&B gun, 12 pack, and have fun picking them off the tree branches all afternoon.

Last year I put on a sweatshirt that was outside. One of those things was inside the sleeve. He scraped/stung the whole underside part of my arm as I put the sweatshirt on.

Man, I hate caterpillars. I killed so many last year.
