Thxs anyway

I see so much BS it's sometimes hard to separate fact from fiction and when you put fact in a thread with bogus info , it sets things straight.

Does the city receive a portion of sales tax revenue collected in unincorporated areas of EBR?

Non-dedicated EBR local government sales taxes collected within EBR parish but outside of the city limits of Zachary, Baker & Central all goes into the general fund of EBR to be spent according to the budget approved by the CP council.

So sales tax collected in the city lof BR goes to EBR general fund? Provided it is not dedicated.

And 50M+ of the general fund is transferred from the parish budget to the city budget every year.

For me, this is the crux of the issue (plus shitty schools but that is an EBR issue, not a city issue.) I live in unincorporated BR and I know that I am paying taxes to subsidize BR police, fire, and courts to which I am not granted access. Now Micky claimed that money flowed the other way but I have yet to see. If some guy in Southdowns is paying for a service I get that he doesn't, I'm all ears but I have yet to find it.

And or the record, I'm still against incorporation because the people behind it our not being honest about the cost or te services that new city will need. As far as the argument on the merits, I think the SG people have it right.

Having recently been part of an unincorporated area becoming a city I have no doubt costs will increase once the area becomes a city. In our case the initial budget was double what was said during the planning. Time will tell if it is worth it.

The budget has to be approved by the metro council which fully represents the unincorporated areas of the parish.

So what? La. Us fully represented in Congress but that doesn't change the fact that the US goes deeper in debt every year .

Nobody is saying the Metto Council is doing anything illegal. People want their own school system and with all the power politics aligned against SG, they are starting to wonder if they are getting their money 's worth from the Metro Govt.

Just because we have council members doesn't mean we like what they are doing. But I will say I'm satisfied with our current sheriff, the DA, the Green Light Plan and SG FD.

I think the Sewer Program, BREC and the Library System are out of control. Nobody really knows if the money collected is bring used wisely. The school system is past rejuvenation.

SG would do nothing to correct the first three issues, but it would totally change the schools if given a chance.

No, no no! St George has zero representation in EBR! They are merely serfs in the Kingdom of Baton Rouge.

Btw, here is the newspaper article describing the fight put up by SG council members when the budget was considered. They really went all out protesting how unfair the budget is to the unicorporated parts of the parish. And the vote was very close...only two "inner city" council members voted against it. Ryan Heck didn't even attend that meeting.

The thought that a bad deal needs to be perpetual simply because it was agreed to is illogical.

WTF are you blabbering about now?

Who claims the LSA "needs to be perpetual"? It has been amended numerous times since it was first adopted.

The CP council can amend it if a majority of them believe it to be unfair.
