uhhh...false. In the next 30 seconds, I could choose to stay seated, open a drawer, drink some water, turn off my computer, or 100 other things. I have the will power and the freedom to do any of those things I want. Just because God already knows what I'm going to do, doesn't mean I can't choose my own actions.

him knowing what will happen implies there is a set sequence that you will follow
There is a course set out for my life that I will go down, but I havne't done it yet. I haven't made those choices. Nothing is FORCING me to stay sitting here or forcing me to walk around the office. I can choose either one. Just because it's already known what I'm going to do doesn't mean I can't have a choice.

I believe awareness is just a side effect and not likely part of any grand design.
Well yeah, you sort of have to, but what I'm saying is that you don't really have any explanation for how something like this could possibly happen.

Totally disagree. We make decisions daily that change our course.
But aren't those decisions shaped by our genetics and our environment?

All religious people should say no since the omniscience of their god implies we're on a set path
Not exactly. As a Catholic, I believe God created man a rational being, who can control his own actions.

We don't have explanations for most things but we keep on churning through life. We will never have all of the answers or even most of them and I am OK with that.

God has a plan for all of us. We are endowed with certain gifts, talents, attributes, and affinities. However, it is up to us to choose that path, to choose to develop and explore those talents. God was like a tinkerer who tried to build the perfect pet (angels). The pet loved him and had to obey him with no choice to ignore. So, the tinkerer tried to build a pet that had free will, so he could know that his pet loved him because he wanted to, not because he was forced to.
This free will is what makes man different than angels. The freedom to choose what is right and what is wrong, to decide for ourselves if we choose to love our creator.
Short version: God gives us talents to accomplish a plan and steers us towards it, but we get to choose whether or not to follow it or make our own path.

i honestly was not trying to start a religious discussion with this thread. I was hoping this would go down a more philosophical path.

No. It implies that there was a path chosen by you that you have already followed, at least from the perspective of God, which is obviously outside of created time.
That right there just scared the shite out of me.

Well right, and I guess that means all of this is an open question. Just remember that this isn't some minor nook or cranny in a particular scientific subfield we're talking about here--this is the very fact of our existence... or if not our existence, then at least what we call our "self."
The laws of physics will never and can never explain it, because by its very nature, the phenomenon is unobservable to the physical sciences.

A lot of people in this thread aren't really thinking about this deeply enough. We can all choose to think about what we would like to do next, and set out on our path.
I think you should look at it more as to what your brain is doing unconsciously.
For example, why do we get a sudden urge to check this board, or to check the weather? Our brain is constantly processing information in the background.
Hence, why when you can't remember the name of your 1st grade teacher, it will suddenly come to you hours later long after you quit consciously thinking about it.

I hahppen to believe that all of our actions are predetermined, in a sense, by our genetics and our environment.

Yes. It's not a leprechaun.

But aren't we thinking about those things because of our genetics and our environment. Don't translate the word environment in such a clear-cut manner.

if he knows you're gonna post on tigerdroppings, you're gonna post on tigerdroppings. if he knows you're gonna post on tigerdroppings and you drink a glass of water instead, then he's not omniscient

I am about as far from liberalism as one can get.

Yeah, it could be a real Nightmare
Seriously though, I think most Christian thought has tended to view those blissfully unaware of their own faults as often being abandoned by God despite worldly success, whereas those who feel worried and most irritated by their own consciences are often those most moved by God's providence.

God knew I was going to type and made me type "Little dirty poop balls coming out of my penis hole." in this sentence from the moment I was born!

In contrast, I think that is the shallow way to think about it.
