The freedom from religion foundation is at it again, this time whining about how Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is trying to instill values in his players through church-related activities.

would you be defending him if he was teaching Islam?

I dont see the big deal
As a solid atheist, and a firm believer there is no such thing as a god, if they get something positive out of it, who cares. They clearly state it's 100% voluntary, if grown men who have the right to vote, want to gather together on their own free time and talk about Thor or Zeus or Buddah, or whatever fictional character they think is out there, so be it.
there's a ton more scandalous shite going on in college football programs bigger than church/state

Just because they may be asshats doesn't mean they aren't correct.
America has no official religion, and that's a good thing.

I think I have no problem with this as long as Dabo does not force his values. First of all, I am sure Dabo talked about God in some extent when he recruited these dudes. shite, I bet the vast majority of the team is Christian anyway and wants them. I do hope any players not in favor do not have to participate or are not ostracized.

Ya I'm sure it is "voluntary."
Even if it offends one football player, this is not ok. Its a public university, if dabo wants to do this he needs to go to Baylor, I'm sure Clemson would be happy to swap coaches

The players could have chosen to play at another school without a religious coach if they wanted to.

If it was Coach Dabo Muhammad Al Akbar this would have been a 300 page thread.

They say 100% voluntary, but as a person who is atheist and always had a lot of religious people around me, it can be difficult to separate yourself from it.
The coach and the team are doing religious stuff on team time, what is one atheist supposed to do? Not be part of team activities?
If he can't teach good morals without religion then he probably doesn't need to be teaching them. Quit your million dollar salary job and be a preacher, or a coach at a Christian school not funded by taxpayers (at least partially funded)

I'm about as anti-religion as they come. As long as as what they do is 100% voluntary, who cares?

This is so damn ridiculous
It amazes me how people that do not believe in God get so butt hurt when someone else does. How in the hell does that harm you?!

Well theyre absolutely right, but sports and religion have gone hand and hand, separation of church and state be damned. We all know that doesnt really exist.

Good. I'm tired of the hypocritical "Christian values" being shoved down everyone's throat.

No problem as long as it's not forced.
If it is mandatory, it's a clear violation of the first amendment.
