And who does he have in Detroit on defense?

Their D-line is legit. Suh, Fairley & Ansah. They need help at LB & in the secondary. They have made moves in the secondary but until they actually play, no one knows if it's an improvement.

Overall Detroit is one of the more talented teams in the league whether you want to admit this or not. Turnovers, stupid penalties & periods of sloppy play plagued the Lions under Schwartz.

The Lions aren't immune from having weaknesses on their team but guess what? You can look at every time & find potential weaknesses, even the Saints. Just because a team may have a weakness in one area doesn't mean a strength can't make up for that weakness. The Saints '09 defense gave up yardage. They finished ranked in the bottom half of the league in yards given up but the forced a ton of turnovers too. Detroit's offense will put up points. All their D-line will have to do is get consistent pressure & force turnovers to help out their secondary.

Teams with new coaching staffs are always the hardest to predict. That's why Tampa scares me a little more than Atlanta or Carolina.

Totally agree.

Especially if they nab Mike Evans in the draft. They have a lot of talent on that team. The GM that they fired really didn't do that bad of a job building that team. I think Schiano was just some blowhard college coach who was a bad hire. a lot of things about their situation last year were shady. But I guess you can't believe everything you hear either.

I think they could even draft a QB. They'll have a few nice options with their pick.

Iono, you would hope Addai (4th year 1st round) and Brown (rookie 1st round) would be enough

Yeah, they were fine to have with Manning on board but without Manning those are average running backs.

Don't be surprised if they're the next 49ers. Great talent, but an idiotic string of coaches.

Their defense has very good players: Barron is an above average safety, Verner is a top corner, one of the best LBs in the league in David and their DL has a top DT in McCoy and a above average DE in Clayborn.

Add in a strong running game with Doug Martin and a competent QB that can throw to VJax and Evans, you're looking at a very sleeper team.

Top it all off, a seasoned defensive minded coach that won't lose his locker room.

I'm more worried about them than carolina and atlanta.

It's not about having weaknesses, it's about the amount of them.

It's also about how much strength you have, and the Lions have little in the department too.

Few strengths + many weaknesses = bad team. Of course coaching plays a role, but we've already seen what Caldwell has done with that formula.

Maybe with their first or second string RBs? Not a guy with 26 carries for 70 yards on the season.

You don't have a clue as to what Manning saw presnap or what their game plan was against the defensive personnel the Saints had on the field that 3rd down to know if it was the right call or not. Secondly, Manning had every right to audible or call timeout if he saw something he didn't like. It's been well known that Manning calls his own plays & makes his own adjustments a the line. You sound retarded right about now. If you don't like Caldwell, just say you don't like him. To put that entire game & one play on him is fricking ridiculous.

HEY! I already said that!

But yeah I think Tampa will surprise many people and Carolina will also surprise many people in a bad way(5-11). I think Atlanta goes between 7-9 to 10-6 with 9-7 being likely.

I think our division can beat up on the Lions, Vikings, and Bears(if they have the home game), and can beat up on the AFC North.

in a way, I think they could do something like the Chiefs did last year.

just as far as making a turnaround I mean.

I don't know about their QB situation though.

Carl Nicks is still with them despite all of the crap that happened to him.

they let their other guard go though. So maybe their O-line has some issues in the interior?

they were a middle of the road defense during a BAD season last year so with their additions like you mentioned and Leslie Frazier coaching them, you'd think they could only improve.

The offense also did little to keep the defense off the field.

If they play more ball control I think they can be dangerous.

People seem to forget that they had nice lead in that division before collapsing late in the season.

They also forget what is like to have a coach bring in stability to a franchise. Caldwell is no Payton, let's get that clear but Schwartz was a lose cannon with no discipline just like Schiano was in Tampa.

they don't have a lot of picks in this draft so they better make them count.

Tampa's defense is already looking stout but they would be down right scary if Khalil Mack falls to them or they trade up a few spots to get him. They did schedule a workout with him today.

He's still not doing well. With nerve damage in his toe, I'm not sure he will ever be the same player that he was before.

The division was weak last year so them holding a lead in it was like Seattle winning the West in 2010.

Schwartz was stable. He wasn't some loose cannon gung ho guy. He just had some problem players that he couldn't or didn't keep under control.

And Schiano was far from a loose cannon. That guy was uptight as all frick and stricter than a mother fricker. He was also a huge prick.

hate to hear that. I always liked him when he was with the Saints. He and Evans were plain nasty.

I must have listened to the clip of him saying I'm going to motha fricking Disneyland a thousand times after the Saints won the Super Bowl.

If they end up drafting a DE/OLB like Clowney or Mack, we're going to need the OL to play very well or Drew is going to be eating dirt. Hell, with their 2nd round pick they could pick up a DE/OLB that could possibly fall out of the late 1st round (ealy/ford)

Schwartz was very Jim Harbaugh like just without the same results.

That's a much better description of Schiano. Point still stands though, he wasn't built to coach the NFL. Schiano is built for the college game.
