Nicks was the best offensive lineman in '11. What he did at times to defenders during that season should be against the law. He definitely was a mauler. True dancing panda indeed.

Schwartz was very Jim Harbaugh just without the same results.
During the game and post game? Yeah he showed emotion on and leaving the field. But he was nowhere near Harbaugh during interviews/press conferences. The guy was very composed.

Point still stands though, he wasn't built to coach the NFL. Schiano is built for the college game.
Totally agree. I hated that they fired him. At least Mike Smith is still in Atlanta.

easy fix, doug martin of '12. That stupid hamster needs to stay away.

Their 3rd string back, I can't remember his name at this moment, was pretty good too. He & Martin will make for a solid one two punch.

Schwartz was dick in numerous pressers. I'm not sure how you missed those. Between that & underachieving, it made firing him real easy.

Payton's a dick in about every presser to certain guys. Belichick is often a dick. Doesn't mean jack.

He wasn't a loose cannon in pressers like Harbaugh is.

Bone, you should know most teams take on the identity of their coaches. It's one thing to be a dick in pressers but it's another to try to fight an opposing head coach & consistently throwing tatrums on the sidelines.

Schwartz lack of self control rubbed off on his team. They played undisciplined & racked up numerous personal foul penalties under his watch. That's a direct reflection of their coach & culture Schwartz created in Detroit.

LINK

quote:

With a 20-20 tie, Schwartz’s team came off the field, refusing to play for the win at that point. The home crowd started to boo, and Schwartz turned to express his feelings about that reaction. Suffice to say, it was not pretty. Schwartz appeared to use at least one obscenity — depending on how your lip-reading skills are — and it was one more ding against a man who certainly seems to be on his way out as head coach.

LINK

quote:

Over the years, Schwartz taunted opposing players (including Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant), was caught admonishing referee Ron Winter to learn the NFL rule book, and most recently, cursed at Lions fans who booed a late-game decision in Week 16's loss to the New York Giants. And let's not forget his impulsive decision to challenge a touchdown ruling last season, one that violated NFL rules and almost assuredly cost the Lions seven points in a close game.

quote:

I recall a moment after the Lions' 2011 loss to the Chicago Bears, a game marred by five turnovers, a critical roughing-the-passer penalty on defensive tackle Nick Fairley and one major brawl. A reporter asked Schwartz about his team's lack of discipline, and he heatedly asked for examples to back up the premise.

The reporter was flabbergasted, given the mountain of evidence the game had provided, and was momentarily speechless. Schwartz moved to the next question as if he had proved his point.

The point was clear: Schwartz didn't view discipline as a problem. That's the kind of defiance it takes for a talented team to fall short for the same reasons in multiple seasons.

Like I said, he showed his emotions on the field. Off the field he was composed.

I guess we'll agree to disagree about whether he was a loose cannon, but I still believe he got shafted by the GM never giving him more to work with. They routinely had enough money to sign FAs but never did.

Caldwell will go through the same crap. Sure the penalties may go down, but I don't see the wins going up.

I guess another thing that has my attention about the Lions is Joe Lombardi joining their staff. I'm interested to see what another coach from the Payton tree can do.

Aaron Kromer improved Chicago's O-line a lot last year. He's the offensive coordinator for the Bears too I think but it seems like Trestman calls most of/if not all the plays.

getting back to Lombardi though, between him and Caldwell it should be interesting to see how they can help Stafford out. He really hit a skid towards the end of last year. Detroit's defense wasn't playing all that bad. It was the offense who kept putting them in shitty spots with a lot of turnovers.

His behavior was not what you expect from a head coach. Even Harbaugh's act is beginning to wear thin with San Fran's front office but more importantly, it's wearing thin inside the locker room.

As someone who obviously watches & follows football closely, you should know better but we'll just have to disagree on this one.

It wasn't just penalties that brought the Lions down. Lack of discipline inside of the system & not being fundamentally sound hurt them just as much. That's where you will see the biggest difference between Schwartz & Caldwell.

Stafford was terrible with his footwork & his delivery. His lack of fundementals caused him to be turnover machine. If Lombardi can help clean that part of Stafford's game up, that will make a huge difference in itself.

We see the same thing and I'm not arguing what he's done, but I call what he was being overly passionate more than being a loose cannon. We see it the same but define the line differently.

Harbaugh is the definition off a loose cannon and that guy isn't going to last long if he doesn't keep winning in the post season. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets fired if he goes one and done in the playoffs this year.

In some ways, but Harbaugh has just a complete lack of disrespect for everyone.

Schwartz was only a dick to Harbaugh because Harbaugh was being a dick.

I've never seen Schwartz be a dick to another coach(players during the game is another matter), whereas Harbaugh has pissed off quite a few of his peers starting with Payton in the preseason of his first year.

Harbaugh just doesn't respect the game whereas even when Schwartz was acting out he was at least respectful to his peers.

And it's also his frick you attitude at almost every presser despite being the winning coach. Schwartz was given a lot more shite and "blew up" far less under much more stressful circumstances.

Schwartz was dick to more people then just Harbaugh.

Did you actually take the time to read any of the quotes or links I posted above? Schwartz was as hot headed as they come. There's more then what I linked above, I just didn't feel there was a need to post anymore then I already did.

My point is it's one thing to be a dick in the heat of the moment(all the stuff you linked). It's another to be one every waking moment of your life.

Here is what one of his own players, Jeff Backus had to say about Jim Schwartz.

quote:

Here is a brief synopsis of what Backus is telling people about Jim Schwartz:

In 2012, Schwartz was lazy.
Schwartz didn’t put in the necessary effort.
Schwartz was resting on the team’s laurels of 2011 when they made the playoffs for the first time this century.
Schwartz didn’t hold anyone accountable.
Schwartz didn’t coach during practices like he had in previous seasons.
Schwartz didn’t put in the necessary hours watching game film or preparing for the next week’s opponent.
That Schwartz basically bought into his own hype and just thought things would progress in 2012 because of the team’s postseason berth in 2011.
