I think Mett is going to be a damn good nfl qb. With one legit year of coaching he improved exponentially. It wouldn't surprise me At all if he and McCarron end up being the best qbs from this draft. I don't think either of them are going to be top 5 the guys but definitely fringe top 10 at their peaks.

You guys way overstate my negativity toward my Alma mater. I don't like obj because I think he is somewhat limited and is terrible value in this draft. Last year I liked ansah and some others more than Mingo(and was right for one year at least with with regards to ansah.)

What are OBJ's limitations?

If Mett was 100% healthy, he would be ahead of Carr.

Carr and Mett are very similar QBs too. Both have big arms with great size. Both dont have great pocket presence / awareness. Both need to go to a vertical passing system with a running game. They arent the type of QBs that would thrive in a dink and dunk system. They both would be great in a vertical, play action passing attack system. Teams that come to mind that would be a great fit for these guys and need a QB are Houston, Arizona, and Minnesota.

The knock on Carr is that he has inconsistent mechanics and makes horrible decisions under duress. When he thinks he might get hit, he freaks out.

Mett has a little better mechanics, played at a high level against better competition, and has been in an NFL system coached by an NFL QB coach. And is a tough player that isnt afraid to stand in the pocket, deliver a strike to a WR, and take the hit. Everyone saw how much Mett improved in 1 season with a true NFL QB coach in Cameron.

Both guys are pretty much even across the board though. Carr was the most productive QB in the country, but it was against 1 of the easiest schedules in the country (108 /120), and his stats were a little inflated. He threw 659 passes in 13 games, an average of 50.6 pass attempts per game. Thats ridiculous. Mett wasnt as productive, but played at a high level against way better competition.

Wouldnt surprise me if 5 years from now, both Carr and Mett are the 2 best QBs from this draft.

No he wouldn't. He's at 97% right now.

And some rankings have him ahead of Carr right now....

And that 97% healthy isnt too accurate. Mett said himself that he was more like 80-90%. A cybex machine was what said Mett was 95-97% healthy. Hes like 14 weeks removed from ACL surgery, he isnt borderline 100% healthy.

But what I meant is that if Mett never was injured, he would go ahead of Carr. Its not just that a player isnt 100%, its the risk of taking a guy in the 1st round that had surgery to repair his torn ACL 4 months ago.

The more surprise first rounders (and they happen every year) the better. I love chaotic first rounds. I think someone we really like is going to fall right in our lap.

And I'll bet the team passes the "unexpected" windfall to pick a player everyone will scratch their heads and say "wtf!!!!!". Happens every year.

He will never be the prototypical number 1 wr in the nfl. He's smaller, does not have the speed other prospects have for his size. He feasted against the weaker teams, and had some absolute brain farts in some of the biggest moments. I think he will be a decent wr, he'll make plays on special teams, and he's very good after the catch. I just don't think he's worth a number 1 draft pick in a draft full of wide receivers. I also don't want a number 1 pick being the guy bringing back kickoffs and punts. There are plenty of guys that can play that role for a lot cheaper and a decreased investment.

And despite hoodoo's shitty attempt at humor, the only thing it has to do with lsu is that I actually watched him in every game. LSU receivers for the most part have panned out very poorly in in the last ten years at the nfl level compared to draft position, but I think Cameron will likely change that, he's a damn good coach.

But he made sure to throw McCarron's name in there. Guy should just admit he's a Bama lover.
