This thread turned into a shite show quick, I was discussing with RAT yesterday about giving advice on here. Seems like everyone has their mind made up and never listens

The thing is everyone has different wants and needs in an AR. Literately endless combinations of parts and calibers.

For hogs I typical use a 308 AR, its a DPMS/SR25 pattern custom build. I like several bullet types for that rifle. I sometimes also use an AR15 in 5.56 and with that I may use 75gr HP's or 69's. I am not a 300BLK fan unless its used suppressed and under 100 yards though. Point is, every situation has several ways to approach with different tools.

If a guy asks me for advice the first thing I ask is his budget and use. The less experienced shooters, hunters, and AR guys always change their mind hundreds of times before they figure out what suits them best anyway. We can point them in the right direction and let them make their on mistakes.

Anybody have any experience with the 458 socom? Just picked up another lower and think this maybe my next project. How's the recoil? Would a kid or even the wife be able to handle it?

Well damn Carson we can never get much follow up on your suggestions it's as if you post one day and then you disappear for awhile only to serial post again only to disappear right afterwards.

It sounds like the right suggestion has been made IMHO by 4 or 5 folks in this thread given the OP's price range.

PSA is running their Easter sale. You can build a pretty good AR for around $500.

Look at a Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Rifle.

Not a 'tacti-cool' rifle but man, a great little rifle. Only gripe I have is that you have to use Ruger mags, other than that, a solid rifle.

Smith & Wesson has a great semi in the M&P 15. The big names are taking notice of this bad boy.

Spikes Tactical has very nice rifles.

If you want to go with the big names, think A-B-C ie Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt

There are tons of good semi's out there its enough to drive you crazy.

I try to keep it simple and stay from tricking out my rifles too much.

Are Diamondback AR's usually good rifles?
