This.

Regular season means nothing once you get into post season play, regardless of how its setup. People say its a new season for a reason.

Uconn won 32 of 38 games and you don't think they were deserving of a title?

There isn't much of an advantage being a #1 seed in the tourney than being a 7 or 8 seed. You're playing the games on a neutral court anyway. It's makes the regular season basically non existant. Why bust your arse to get a 1 seed?

I worry about the new football playoff. If it goes to 8 teams, and the #1 team is matched with the #8 team. Those 2 teams would play at a neutral site. That's unfair to the #1 team who very likely would be undefeated playing a possible 3 loss team. Where's the reward for going undefeated?

Bust your arse? Did you ever play sports? Players play. No one is playing harder in hopes they'll get a one seed. It doesn't really work like that.

That's not what I meant. I know teams play hard every game. I'm talking about the regular season being meaningless. Why get so bent out of shape worrying about the seeding? There's no home court advantage for being the higher seed.

I don't think the top seeds are generally worried about seeding. Its the 5-8 seed teams where seeding can make or break their tourney.

I agree. A group of people who don't watch the majority of the teams that play from week to week along with a bunch of nerds should just subjectively select the two "best" teams with no rhyme or reason to play for a championship. The other 70 teams with winning records should just play meaningless exhibition games.

Maybe not "perfect", but sure in the hell not the worst.

Don't understand the downvotes, I agree with you completely.

Single game elimination with so many teams that the regular season is just about meaningless. Yeah, it's good television, but there are better ways to crown a champion.

At least people watch those "exhibition" games. In great numbers I might add. Meanwhile, your "Big Monday" in college basketball is getting crushed by Rissoli and Isles.

And just to add, I think the 2 best college football teams have played in the BCS every year since 1998. Based on their resume from the regular season.

Slo, I always agree on the philosophy that the NCAA T does not necessarily "get it right", but a team winning 4 in 16 years makes you wonder. It is different than football. In bball, it is about who is the best team at the end, and maybe not who is best over the entire season.

At the end of the season, there were at least 15 or so teams that I would say were more deserving at a shot at a title than UK and UConn

I love watching the tourney and think that's the only reason college basketball is relevant in the general sports world, but it's not a good way of deciding a champion

That's all good and well, but UConn actually beat Villanova, Michigan St, and Florida to get there. Better teams that.

Most teams want to win their conference.

This thread just made it clear that they actually don't give a shite.

Thx guys.

Basketball is much better- they bring in roughly 20% of the participants and decide it on the court. Football has a committee that selects roughly 3% of the participants to play in its football game. And there's no shroud of an artificial cartel mucking up the works
This figured to be a wide open tournament. No team looked dominant.
What's the alternative? Have some committee pick 8 teams, play best 2/3? Please - that will be as bogus as football is about to be and has been.

The fact that there have been talks about expanding the NCAA tournament to 96 teams shows how much the NCAA cares about finding the most effective way to determine a champion.

In the NCAA T, Uconn beat the champs of the A10, Big East, Big 12, B1G, and SEC

just sayin...
