Wife and I were talking about it today. Would like to hear personal experience. Either pro or con. Thanks!

I was a summer birthday and was "held back". Im very happy I did. I developed a bit faster than others in my grade and helped build me into a leader type person.

Our son did kindergarten twice. Catholic school was full day and we didn't feel he was ready for a full day of school at 5 so he did public school one year and then began Catholic school the following year. It had nothing to do with sports and everything to do with his attention span.

You should just homeschool your kid....

I'll wait for reactions.

My son's birthday was 2 days before the cutoff ... we did NOT send him. Maturity was an issue ... he'll be 17 in July and a junior in the fall. Doing fine ... glad we did it for him.

Now our first son turned 5 and then went to school 2 weeks later ... graduated 4.0, and is graduating from LSU in engineering in 4 years. He was the youngest in his class BUT he was one of the more mature ones despite this.

I think that you know your child and what's best for him/her.

Being the oldest in your class is 1000 x's better than being the youngest

We made our daughter repeat kindergarten. She just turned 8 a few weeks ago and is in first grade now. It was a maturity thing mostly for us. She just wasn't ready to advance in our eyes and we didn't want her to struggle down the road.

If you plan to hold a kid back do it as young as possible. I was held back in the 1st grade and it sucked, but in hind sight wasn't that bad. My cousin had to repeat 5th grade and that was way worse from a teasing standpoint. Kids can be pretty mean about that stuff.

our first freeloader went to kindergarten at 4. she turned 5 at the end of august. she has done fine in school and is now a jr in high school. she is/and will be the youngest in her class

my 2nd one also has a late august birthday and started K at 4. he did not do so well, so he repeated K. he is in 5th grade now and is doing great. he is also one of the oldest

I held my son back. He is 7 now and about to graduate kindergarten. He will have the biggest dick in the 7th grade.

I started Kindergarten a year early. I asked my parents to hold me back in 5th grade so I could be with kids my own age, not be the youngest kid in my grade anymore. I was in gifted classes, so it wasn't about grades. If you don't believe me, look at my search history and find where I posted in every ACT thread that I scored a 31. Still don't believe me? Wanna fight about it?

Anyway, with my own son, he has an August birthday so we started him a year late so he wouldn't be one of the youngest in his class. It's working out well so far.
