And now it makes sense why they had to release Steve Smith. Those two would never get along.

I'm referring to his inability to read the screen and cover the RB releasing. If he gets the blitz call, that's all that's on his mind.

You are talking about a small percentage situation. That situation has a lot to do with the defensive coordinator and how they instruct their players to blitz. A lot of times you are instructed to go for the QB regardless of the exchange, which fits more into the Gregg Williams style of play. 1, you get a free hit on the QB if he is concealing the play with his motions, and 2, if it is a play action you make the play because you are likely a couple of steps away from drilling the QB.

As far as Harper goes, I can't think of many instances outside of the Gregg Williams years that he got burned do to his aggressive blitz play-style, on either run plays or screens. I know he had a short year this year with his knee injury, and we only saw him towards the end of the year, but he played pretty well towards the end, and he was instrumental in keeping Russel Wilson from burning us on the ground. And unlike Jenkins, he can actually tackle the QB when he gets in the backfield.

Their dislike will lessen if he gives Brees another case of the ole stretch neck.

Makes me simultaneously cringe and laugh every time...

New #Panthers safety Roman Harper has more #NFL catches than team's current wide receivers.

Pete Prisco ?@PriscoCBS 7m
Roman Harper may as well be called the Roman Statue for the way he covers.

After signing Roman Harper, Gettlemen is also expected to meet with Kim Jong il, George Shinn and The Nature Boy Ric Flair. #Panthers

Lol, from Carolina huddle.

I'm trying to imagine Roman Harper covering Jimmy Graham right now and it's making me very happy.

Glad he got him a gig. It's a shame its for Carolina, or is it? Seriously though - Carolina looks like a non-factor this year, maybe 6 wins. Thinking 4-12.

Fun watching them go through all the stages of grief.

Now they've convinced themselves Harper is actually good.

Can't wait to see that guy twice next year. Should've been cut 3 years ago.

I'm glad he signed with Carolina for three reasons.

1) He's a nice guy
2) He's not available to resign with us
3) He'll be playing for a division rival so our passing game should thrive
