Sitting beside a former congressman from Kansas struggling with Alzheimer's, Seth Rogen opened up today before a Senate committee in Washington about his family's own personal battles with the disease.

Rogen, 31, began dating his now-wife Lauren Miller nine years ago when he met her parents for the first time.

He said after meeting the family, Miller admitted something was wrong with her mother Adele. Not long after that, her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's while only in her mid-50's.

Celebrities being called before Congress for various causes seems like one giant circle jerk to me

As someone who has seen a family member with alzheimer's, I can say that Seth is right about this.

Like he said, at first I thought it was simply forgetfulness, but then when you see someone who can't even recognize their own kids, then someone who can't speak in complete sentences anymore, it changes the way you look at this disease.

I thought he did a good job. Stayed true to his usual self and used his name to help promote awareness. What's not to like?

I made it a minute and had to bail because of his gaspy, wheezy laugh.

And I have family members with Alzheimer's, so that's saying something.

I watched the speech earlier; he did a good job. He represented the National Alzheimer's Association on a witness panel at a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing. He has an Alzheimer's charity and personal experience through his mother-in-law. They were taking testimony and considering the economic impact of the disease.

This isn't like he's being called as an "expert" because he played an Alzheimer's patient in a movie, or Ted Danson being called as an expert oceanographer.

Rogen explained that in a span of 35 years, 16 million Americans will have Alzheimer's -- a disease that experts explained is the most costly disease in America, topping $200 billion for those who need care, according to the Alzheimer's Association.

Wow! I didn't realize Alzheimer's was the costliest disease in the US.

I don't see how anyone can fault Rogen for this.

I think it's pretty awesome anytime and anyway for this to get more attention. It's something that's very close to my heart and it almost feels like it's a disease that gets put on the back burner because only old people at the end of their life get it. At least that's the common assumption.
