How was the shave?

Must be heavier like the Merkur 34C?

So heads up to those who have been doing this for a while and may have forgotten, the blades are still dangerous as hell, even if you've become a master. I just hacked my chin pretty good. I wasn't even shaving on the skin. I just slammed the razor up on the skin as I was about to shave against the grain. Never lose focus with such a sharp object.

I'm currently putting together my first safety razor setup.

I'm going with:
Edwin Jagger DE89Lbl saftey razor
Escali razor/brush stand
TOBS Almond Shaving cream

and a badger brush.

Question is: Anyone tried the Escali 100% pure badger brushes vs something like a Edwin Jagger 100% Best badger brush? I've read that Pure vs Best indicates where the hair comes from on the badger and that the Best is a step up from Pure (and that Silvertip is the ultimate). The escali brush is only 12 bucks on amazon but if I'm going to end up with the better brush anyway I'd rather buy it now than later. TIA

I have the Escali brush got it off amazon for like 11.00. It did shed a bit when I first got it but I has been a good brush and has held up well over the past 6 months.

I would recommend it to anyone looking to put a first time kit together.

I bought a whipped dog brush. Very nice. His silver tip knots are pretty damned good. Mine loses a hair every few shaves but not all the time like my first brush. Was only about 40 bucks too.

I just switched to Nivea Sensitive Gel and got some new Gillette Mach 3 Turbo razors. Cost me $9 for everything and it takes me a whole lot less time than setting up my boutique shaving rig at the sink with all of the equipment I spent hundreds of dollars on because I was never content with what I had. I must've bought 7 different brushes alone within 2 years time. No telling how many different soaps, cremes, etc. Razor blades were cheap but boy the rest of that adds up quick.

I just said screw it and went with the old fashioned can of shaving cream and new mach 3s and I couldnt ask for a better shaving experience. It's fast and my skin is smooth as a baby's butt when I get out of the shower. It gives me an extra 8-10 minutes that I can enjoy taking my morning dump and reading on the commode.

Feather blades are great! Short strokes!

First shave with a Feather can be tough. The second with the blade is smoother. Astras are smooth coming out of the pack, but you get one or two less shaves with them than a Feather.
