ETA: Oops, didn't realize this was an old thread and I'd already offered my opinion.

Winner

For RBR, I also like smoked sausage from Cox's Meat Market in Reserve.

Had a conversation with the owner. He said the only difference between the andouille and the smoked sausage is the size of the casing. Surprising to me, because to me, they taste different.

On another topic, if you order RB & R at a NOLA lunch place, you'll usually get a link that hasn't been pierced and was steamed, not cooked in the beans. When you cut into it, you need a bib so you don't get sprayed. Anybody know what kind of sausage that is?

Double D is damn good. My first choice tho is Bourgeois Meat Market. Their smoked sausage is de-li-shus!

So is their jerky and turkey cheese.

Hey what can I say, I drive a delivery truck that covers all of S.La, so if I see a specialty meat store, I'm gonna stop!

Plus all our family is in NELA, so they're always wanting us to bring them fresh smoked sausage and boudin (&boudin balls)

Just used Veron's in my jambalaya cookoff, and was very pleased. That said there are many awesome store specials like Benoits and Bergerons (in BR area) that are outstanding. The Acadiana offerings are almost too numerous to list (although you've done a great job)

Mostly the OP is a compilation of what other posters have recommended. I suppose there are good foods almost everywhere but Cajuns are spoiled silly. You have so much to choose from right in your backyard.

Country Meat Block in Opelousas.....my go to for smoked sausage....red beans/gumbo. It has a great smoke flavor and is very lean......get the pure pork smoked.

Teets is the best ... anything out of Ville Platte beats anything out of anywhere else. Hands down. My kids call it "Ville Platte sausage" and won't each much else when it comes to sausage.

Smoked meat festival is held there == my parents were super involved with the cooking contest for years.

And fwiw, it's expensive BUT Teets does ship. Well worth it if you're not in driving distance. I know it's time to "go home" for a visit when we're out of sausage. I buy a couple of 5# boxes at a time and freeze it.
