I had 150 science too, would've been pissed if I had crashed

F5 to Quicksave! F9 to Quickload!

I usually Quicksave before I land, and then once I have landed I decide if I have enough fuel to get back and I quicksave again if it looks safe to return.

When returning to Kerbin I always burn prograde for long enough to get my apoapsis a few thousand feet high. I then plot a course that will put me in Kerbin orbit and I am careful to cut off my engines right as I am in range. I believe X is the engine cutoff key.

Once you reach Kerbin orbit burn retrograde until your path intersects the planet.

If you intend to have a specific landing zone you will have to be a lot more careful with returning to Kerbin.

I rebuilt my Mun rocket and then modified that to create a Minmus rocket. Here are the results. It is a bit overpowered. I can get to Minmus with the all of the fuel from my second and final stages remaining. I just did a landing and then returned to Kerbin from Minmus with full fuel in my final stage which has the more efficient atomic engines. I believe I can set my sights farther without modifying this rocket at all.

The new design takes the final two stages from my original Mun rocket and updates some of the motors, adds solar panels, and a large amount of lights. I then added the mid sized rockets and some solid rocket boosters which are unnecessary but I like the way that they look.

Just after liftoff.

The new rockets are incredibly powerful. Here is what remains of the first stage. The central rocket still has full fuel and the other two are at about half. In this screenshot I am orbiting at around 100k. If you use the single astronaut capsule on top of this large of a rocket you can send it very long distances with little fuel.

Here is the new design on the old lander. I had to add lights after having some issues on night landings.

I also added some solar panels and staggered the engine design to allow for the massive atomic engines.

Minmus in the background. Time for a landing.

Now you can see why I had to add all of the lights. It is dark as hell on Minmus. This screenshot is from my first landing which I did with my updated Mun rocket before I redesigned it specifically for Minmus.I did not take a full set of screenshots documenting any of my missions to Minmus yet.

I have done every single mission with Jebediah. I suppose that I should create a larger design that can hold Bill and Bob too.

After watching some videos I realized that I need to research more before I can build an adequate rover. I can however replicate the spacestation/refueling depot that I built a few months ago in sandbox mode. I will document a Minmus mission and the creation of the space station in the upcoming weeks.

How do I get the science I collect when I can't transmit most of it because it's too many mits, and I don't have enough power to send more than 1 transnission? Can I walk a full science report using a Kerbal to the Kerbal space center?

Go to the flight center and recover all of your landed space craft.

You probably could do Duna (add some chutes) and definitely Ike with that rocket once you get down how to do interplanetary encounters efficiently. Duna is surprisingly easy with it's low gravity and easier to land than Mun/Minimus since you have atmosphere and can use chutes. Getting off Duna is very similar to getting off the Mun in terms of fuel.

God I love this game! Started up career mode last night, and I had forgotten how inefficient at balancing loads I had become. Felt silly with every rocket trying to play fracking tilt o whirl on me for the first 30 mins

Anybody done much with space stations in career mode? Would love to build a big arse station to refuel rockets for long range trips etc.

I have tried multiple times. I get my rockets close to each other but can't dock for shite. I want a Space Station/Refueling Station in the worst way. Then I could start doing manned missions to the Jool system with a chance of landing on a moon.

I finally broke down and bought this game last night after following this thread for a while...

I've only had time to build a couple rockets but I've already learned a valuable lesson: do not deploy parachute at lift-off. My rocket did circles in the air until I ran out of fuel and crashed to the ground

I told stories at work today about my experience with it so far and everyone was intrigued. Gonna be a good time for sure!

I watched several tutorials late last year about docking. It takes hours upon hours to master. Once you learn docking it is relatively easy to build a space station.

I just sent a probe to Duna and Ike. As I thought, my current rocket can make it there and back. It is easy enough to orbit the sun and then burn prograde to get to Duna. I also realized that there is science to be had orbiting the sun which I am about to gather. That should be a simple short mission worth several hundred science.

Not in career mode yet, but I haven't played career mode nearly as much as my sandbox mode I have been running way before career mode was an option. It's a must for going out further. I had a whole colony on Duna that I had a small ship that could go back and forth to the resource station in orbit and back down to the colony where I had a Kethane operation going.

The first "long" mission I went on was to the North Pole. I got something like 300 science from that one trip

I went to the NP. I only got 25 science on that trip. I have collected data from all biomes, in orbit, etc. and now I am at an impasse. Career mode is rough

Yeah I was WAY off on that memory. It was probably like 100 or something.

Finally got a successful mün encounter, orbit, and return to kerbin. I had to do the kerbin re-entry w/o electricity, thankfully retrograde was lining up with my spin. 200 science will help.

So many unsuccessful mun landing attempts, I can't keep it together for the last 100 m or so.

Too much lateral movement?

You should try landing the old school way without landing struts and using wing tips as landing struts if you really want to rage out.

I had only very slight lateral movement, what was happening was that my lander was too tall and while perfectly fine for flying around space, or parachute landings back on Kerbin, landing it in zero gravity did not work so well. Made a wide and short lander and landed the first time, collected my 300 science points and got the fudge back home with nothing but fumes left in the tank.

Ahhhh, the tipping over issue.
