We would always pay it off on time. That isn't the issue. I'm just trying to figure out how to maximize my rewards/miles/cash back.

In that case, I'd consider the IHG or Hyatt cards. Again, we're facing a deadline with Chase. IHG gives you a free night at any hotel (depending on award availability) of any category for only a $49 fee. That's a win easy.
Hyatt does the same for $75 but for Cats 1-4 and if a standard room is available.
The Hyatt card occurred to me (already had the lady friend sign up for it). I was trying to decide if I should allow myself to continue in this comfy hotel cocoon I've created for myself, or whether I need to force myself to branch out

Barclays people have me considering suicide. Those people and their computer system are ducking insufferable. Screw them
Also, the 2.1% doesn't exist.

You get a 5% refund on points used for travel. Thus a valuation of 2.1 points per dollar.

What would be the perks of getting an Amex blue cash preferred/gold/platinum

AmEx blue cash - $100 sign up bonus after spending $1K/3months. 3% cb on groceries, 2% on gas upto $6,000.
Amex gold - Travel rewards. 3x travel, 2x gas and groceries. Posible to get upto 50000 points after spending 3k. $195 fee, but can be offset with $100 annual airfare credit.
Amex Platinum - Premium travel rewards. Don't know if this is very useful for you right now. 3x on airfare purchased directly with airline, 2x on gas and groceries. Hilton and SPG gold, Lounge access, TSA precheck $100 credit, $200 airfare credit every year. Good card for someone who travels a lot. $450 af.
Best travel partners for Membership Rewards would be Singapore and FlyingBlue imo.
Couple notes: Amex only lets you get the signup bonus once. Its best to wait to get targeted for the 75K bonus on Gold and 100K on Platinum.
Like Teddy Ruxpin said earlier - all a little overwhelming which will need to take into consideration your spending habits to maximize value. Since you have no had other credit cards, it might be harder to get some of the premium travel cards. Maybe start with one of the cards that were mentioned by Teddy or Discover It miles. Both are easy to earn and burn "points" with.

Ok. So I should wait on Amex I guess.
If I'm active duty though should I still get the $450 af waived or only a portion of it?

Which would you recommend from them?
Barclays arrival plus?
Barclays arrival plus?

I have no idea about how the AF getting waived for Active Duty works honestly.
Although Discover it miles is 3x for the first year - i'd go with Arrival+ just because of the $422 bonus in year 1 + 2.1x miles.
After year 1 - if you can get AF waived - great. If not - then I would cancel the card.

Amex gold - Travel rewards.
For the Gold PRG card, there is a 50,000 point bonus for $1k spend with first year annual fee waived floating around out there. It also qualifies for the $100 air credit. I hit that one last week.

Amex Platinum
Also I don't think the plat gets anything but 1 point per dollar unless you buy travel through amextravel.com and in that case it is 2/$1. The main benefit of this one IMO is access to the centurion lounges, delta sky clubs and priority pass lounges. There is a 100k bonus point for $3k spend offer floating out there.

What's this about? The 5 app/24 month thing?
Yup. I want to replenish SPG points but may get the Ink Plus first.

I have about $300 in monthly cell, sat tv and phone service.
I pay a couple cell phones bills for my employees so I have $300 there and then another $75 to internet/cable. Since I drive a lot, that's another $3k in gas so I guess I should look to this card since that would be almost 30,000 points there and then those transfer to 30,000 miles right?
I do wish they'd give me the first year free like SPG biz.
ETA: Is this the best Ink Plus offer (60,000) or has there been better? I guess I only have until next month to decide on the business card. Decisions, decisions I kinda like the Hyatt card but may not use those certs properly in the next year.

For those of you considering Ink, don't forget that every Office Depot I've ever been to sells Shell and Exon gift cards.
Posted on 2/14/16 at 8:24 pm to Sho Nuff
Buying $3K in Shell GCs from Staples will yield 15,000 pts.
$375*12 will yield 22,500 points for a total of 37.5K in a year just from your regular spend.

Think of it this way. Between Ink or Hyatt if it is one or the other - the 60K bonus on Ink will give you 2 free nights at a top Hyatt anyway. Since the points would be flex and earning potential on Ink is >>>> Hyatt. Ink is a no brainer between the 2.
And yes, 60K off is the best.

2 companies they don't have a lot of here
Chevron and 76 mostly, but there are some Shell.

Yeah, I never looked into it before but the 5x is pretty big especially when this is regular spend for me. Damn, now I'm sad I missed all those points

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Ink Plus then. Send me your referral link.

Will do. Remember - it does take a couple of days for chase invitations to arrive.
Do I sound like all the blogs out there that push Chase Sapphire and Ink?
