So i've got the AMEX blue sky card with 20k points on it right now, would I lose those points If I got this one?

ETA: Or just not be able to get the rewards offer.

No you won't. However, American Express has changed their policy now and you can only get one introductory bonus per lifetime. One for a personal card and one for a business card so choose wisely when you get your next intro bonus from Amex because it will be your last.

VA, I was under the impression the Amex rule was one bonus lifetime per product. Therefore, you can get the intro bonus on all their cards once, just not churn the same bonus on the same card.

Also, Cedar Point was awesome. Visited The Christmas Story house in Cleveland. I now know why Johnny Football leaves every weekend.

This is right. Granted you have to wait a year between cards if you want to maximize your bonuses.

I got the delta gold a few months ago (50k bonus miles) and just clicked the offer link he attached and for existing gold members I would only receive 5k/5k right now if I upgraded to plat.

I hope that is the case. My understanding was different but I could be incorrect.

Is that recent? I got the Gold Premiere and Platinum late 2013 and I received both of the bonus offers.

May 1st was the change date.

The official statement from American Express is: “In order to ensure fairness and clarity with our Card Members, we will be making a change to our acquisition incentive control rules for American Express Consumer Cards. Beginning May 2, 2014, welcome bonus offers will not be available to applicants who have or have had the Card they’re applying for. For example, if a Card Member once had or has a Platinum Card, they will not be eligible to receive a welcome bonus offer on a new Platinum Card application.”

I don't recall the offer mentioning it being a business card, but I'll check when I get back to the office.

My apprehension is due to the fact that I'm not traveling a ton at the moment, so I was wondering if I should put it off until I could better utilize the benefits that non-waived $450 fee would be paying for. I can't imagine this is the one and only time I'll find this envelope in my mailbox. Plus, like I've mentioned previously, I plan on buying a car at the end of the year, so I'm trying to avoid hard pulls.

This is a great thread

I have a questions for the posters
I have a chase sapphire card with 48K points on it. I'm looking to book an international flight through their reward website and found the flight cost exactly the same price as booking through any other carrier. When i try to reserve the flight they say my 48K points are worth about 600$. Is that right? is there a way to maximize the earned points? Is transferring the points to an airline makes it worth more money?

thanks

Yeah, but you are right with regards to picking your AMEX cards. Now, the need to wait until they put out some of their better offers is important. It appears that the Delta 50k point offer is one of the best offers on those cards in some time.

I've never actually booked through the rewards site, but generally speaking there is quite a bit more value in transferring direct to carrier.

I don't know if you are eligible to upgrade to the Sapphire Preferred and receive the bonus, but if you are or offered any bonus I would recommend that so you could transfer to the carrier.

The regular Sapphire won't allow you to transfer.

I can tell you with a pretty high confidence you won't get a better signup offer than the 100k you received. Obviously everyone is in a different situation but I would recommend that card/offer you got to literally everyone.

Gotcha.
Yeah, it almost definitely will with most airlines, but depends on where you are going if 48k will get you a RT. 60k to Europe on United. 40k to Costa Rica LINK
There are tricks to getting more value out of your United points as well with stopovers and open jaws.
